Launch coverage reported four output versions, from 200 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque to 300 hp and 660 lb-ft. The announcement described an OEM powertrain rollout—not a retail crate-engine launch.
What is the Cummins B6.7 Octane?
The B6.7 Octane is a gasoline engine, not a diesel. Car and Driver’s March 20, 2025 launch report described it as a turbocharged 6.7-liter inline-six designed for commercial vehicle applications. The report said it runs on 87-octane gasoline.
“First gas engine” refers to gasoline in this announcement. It does not mean Cummins had never made engines for gaseous fuels. The company’s 2025 SEC-filed materials say full production of its X15N natural-gas engine began in fall 2024. Natural gas and gasoline are different fuels and engine configurations.
How much power and torque does it make?
Car and Driver reported four B6.7 Octane output variants in March 2025. The reported range runs from 200 hp and 600 lb-ft to 300 hp and 660 lb-ft; the launch coverage does not give the ratings for each intermediate version.

These are launch specifications relayed by Car and Driver, not independent test results. The available reporting does not provide comparable fuel-economy or total-cost data for gasoline and diesel versions, so it does not support a direct operating-cost comparison.
Which vehicles were planned to use it?
The March 2025 reports positioned the engine for medium-duty commercial work, including trucks, buses, delivery vans, and utility vehicles. Initial production was described as limited to OEM chassis partners rather than individual retail engine buyers.
Rank #2
Kenworth was named as an initial partner. Motor1’s March 14, 2025 report, republished by inkl, described planned applications in Kenworth Class 5–7 trucks. Those are launch plans reported at the time, not confirmation of present-day production, model-year fitment, or dealer availability. Check current specifications with Cummins or Kenworth for a particular truck.
What was reported about maintenance?
Car and Driver relayed a Cummins figure of 15,000 miles between oil changes. Treat that as a reported manufacturer claim, not a universal interval established for every vehicle or duty cycle. The service schedule for the specific truck and application should govern maintenance.

Can consumers buy the engine?
The launch coverage describes an OEM commercial powertrain and partner-chassis rollout, not a consumer retail or crate-engine offering. The available reporting does not establish whether the engine or equipped trucks are currently available to purchase; availability and fitment may have changed since the March 2025 announcements.
