For couples married in the United States in 2025, The Knot reports an average wedding-photographer cost of $3,000, while Fearless Photographers’ survey of 138 U.S. photographers puts a defined 10-hour package at about $5,800. Those figures measure different things: one reflects couples’ reported spending and the other photographer-reported pricing for a specified package. Neither is a guaranteed quote for your date or location.
What does wedding photography cost in 2025?
The most useful published figures depend on whether you are looking at couples’ spending or a photographer’s package price. The Knot’s 2026 cost article, based on its study of U.S. couples who married in 2025, reports an average professional wedding-photographer cost of $3,000. The overall study included 10,474 couples; the article does not state a photographer-specific sample size. Its reported cost quartiles are $1,500 at the lower quartile, $2,800 at the median, and $4,700 at the upper quartile. These are couple-spend figures, not prices for a standardized package. The Knot’s cost figures and study details describe the measure and population.
A separate measure comes from Fearless Photographers: its survey of 138 U.S. wedding photographers reports an average 2025 price of about $5,800 for a standard package of around 10 hours, 600–1,000 high-resolution images, and applicable local taxes. Its most common price cluster was $4,000–$5,500. This is photographer-reported pricing for a defined package, not a couples’ average. Fearless Photographers’ 2025 pricing report provides that package context.
WeddingWire’s undated guide gives an approximate U.S. cost of $2,000 and a stated range of $1,150–$3,000, based on reports from thousands of couples who recently reviewed the service. Because the guide does not identify a precise field year, treat these as general guide figures rather than a 2025-only estimate. WeddingWire’s cost guide explains its range.

How location and wedding size affect the estimate
The Knot’s 2026 article reports these average photographer costs by U.S. region for couples married in 2025. They are study averages, not local quotes:

The Knot also reports average spend by guest count for 2025 weddings: $2,000 for 1–50 guests, $2,700 for 51–100, and $3,500 for 101 or more. A larger event may call for more coverage time or photographers working simultaneously, but guest count alone does not determine the right package.
Ask whether the quote covers the parts of the day you care about: getting ready, ceremony, portraits, reception, and any additional events. If the venue is far from the photographer’s base, WeddingWire notes that mileage, airfare, lodging, or a travel fee may apply; have the vendor specify which charges are included.

What changes the package price?
Coverage hours and schedule
Longer coverage generally means more of the photographer’s time on the wedding day. Confirm the start and end time, which events are included, and the overtime rate before comparing totals.
One photographer or a team
A second photographer can cover separate getting-ready locations or capture another angle at the same time. WeddingWire says 34% of photographers include a second shooter in their starting rates; the guide does not state the year for that figure, and many photographers charge separately. Decide based on your schedule, venue, guest count, and desired coverage rather than assuming a second shooter is always necessary.

Michelle Jackson, owner of Bambino International, explains that a significant part of a package can go toward wedding-day coverage, including the lead photographer and second or third shooters needed for full event coverage. This is her explanation of package costs, not a measured breakdown. The Knot’s article quotes Jackson.

Ask how the photographer edits images, the approximate number of finished photographs, the delivery format, and the expected delivery date. A digital gallery, USB drive, prints, or print credit may be included or priced separately; get each inclusion in writing.

Engagement sessions, albums, and other events
Engagement photography may be bundled or sold separately. WeddingWire gives a guide range of $150 to more than $600 per session, but does not state a data year. Rehearsal coverage, bridal portraits, albums, and prints can also be add-ons. The Knot notes that engagement photos may be bundled into a package, which can cost more overall while saving compared with booking two shoots separately.

Compare the complete cost and deliverables, not just the starting price. Request an itemized quote and line up these details:
- Coverage: hours, events, start and finish times, overtime rate, and hours worked by each photographer.
- Staffing: number of photographers and whether a second shooter is included or an extra charge.
- Finished work: editing, approximate image count, delivery format, and delivery deadline.
- Add-ons: engagement session, rehearsal or other event coverage, album, prints, and print credit.
- Additional charges: travel, lodging, meals, taxes, and other fees relevant to your venue.
- Contract and rights: personal-use printing and sharing, copyright, marketing use, cancellation and rescheduling terms, backup coverage, and overtime provisions.
- Style and experience: review complete galleries, including work in lighting conditions and venues similar to yours. WeddingWire identifies photojournalistic, traditional, fine-art, fashion, and vintage approaches; compare work that matches the look you want.
A lower starting price may mean fewer hours, one photographer, or digital delivery only. A higher package might include extra coverage, a second photographer, an engagement session, an album, or travel. Ask what each quote costs with only the additions you actually want. WeddingWire also cautions that a print release is not necessarily a copyright release and may leave marketing-use rights with the photographer, so review the specific contract rather than relying on a general guide.
How to set a realistic budget
- Define the coverage you need. List the events, locations, and time window you want photographed before requesting prices.
- Choose the deliverables that matter. Decide whether you want an engagement session, album, prints, or extra event coverage, and ask for those items as separate line items.
- Request quotes for your date and venue. Ask several photographers to itemize hours, staffing, travel, taxes, and optional costs so the totals are comparable.
- Review portfolios and contract terms. Assess full galleries and confirm delivery, rights, cancellation, and contingency provisions before booking.
The Knot recommends using location-specific budgeting and vendor-discovery tools for a more tailored next step. Published national statistics can frame expectations, but they cannot establish what a photographer will charge for your particular wedding.
