There is no single best equipment-financing company for every U.S. small business. The right fit depends on the equipment, your qualifications, how quickly you need funding, the full repayment cost, and whether you want to own the asset or lease it. The available comparisons identify several lenders and financing routes, but they do not establish a verified, definitive ranking of exactly eight companies. Use the options below as a shortlist to investigate—not as a claim that every provider is currently available or suitable.
Which equipment financing options are worth comparing?
NerdWallet’s comparison, updated September 17, 2026, presents these options for different borrower needs. One is an SBA loan program rather than a financing company, so it is included as a route to compare, not counted as a company.
| Option | Use case highlighted in the comparison | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| National Funding | Businesses seeking no down payment | Confirm the down-payment requirement for your offer, plus the APR, fees and repayment schedule. |
| eLease | Applicants with lower credit | Check the minimum qualification criteria and whether the product is a loan or lease. |
| SBA 7(a) loan | Larger purchases and longer terms | Confirm that the equipment purchase and your business qualify, and account for the application process and total loan costs. |
| Triton Capital | Businesses seeking flexible repayment | Ask what payment schedules are available and whether the schedule matches your cash flow. |
| Bank of America | Competitive rates | Request a current, written quote and check eligibility, fees and any relationship requirements. |
| U.S. Bank | Financing that may include soft costs | Ask whether delivery, installation or other setup costs qualify and how including them changes the total cost. |
| OnDeck | Businesses prioritizing speed | Verify current funding timing, the cost of the specific offer and whether payments are daily, weekly or monthly. |
| First Citizens Bank | Customizable financing | Ask which terms can be customized and compare the resulting payment and total repayment amount. |
| JR Capital | Larger financing amounts | Confirm the amount available for your equipment type and the associated eligibility and pricing. |
The comparison describes these as options for different needs, not a universal winner. It lists nine options, including the SBA 7(a) program, so it does not verify an exact eight-company ranking. Lendio’s search-indexed page also names eight providers—Balboa, ClickLease, 4 Hour Funding (Centra), Commercial Funding Partners, Global Financial, Paradigm, South End Capital and Time Payment—but the page content was not available to verify its selections or terms. Treat those names as leads for independent checking, not confirmed recommendations.
How equipment loans and leases differ
Equipment loan
An equipment loan is generally a term loan used to purchase machinery, vehicles, computers, office equipment or other business assets. The equipment often serves as collateral. If the business defaults, the lender may be able to repossess it. Once the loan is paid off, the business generally owns the equipment.

Equipment lease
With a lease, the lender or leasing company owns the equipment and the business pays to use it. The contract may allow the business to renew the lease or buy the equipment at the end. Compare the buyout price, renewal terms and return requirements before treating a lease payment as the full cost of acquiring the asset.
Neither structure is automatically cheaper. Consider how long you expect to use the equipment, the effect of payments on cash flow and what you want to happen at the end of the agreement.

How to compare the real cost of offers
Compare APR, fees and total repayment
NerdWallet’s broad guide gives approximate APR ranges of 4%–15% for well-qualified borrowers using bank and SBA lenders, and 6%–45% for online and specialist equipment lenders. These are guide ranges, not quotes; an actual offer depends on the borrower, lender and asset. Some lenders quote factor rates instead of APR, which makes direct comparison harder. Ask for the total amount you will repay and a breakdown of fees; do not compare a factor rate with an APR as if they were the same measure.
Potential charges include origination fees, late-payment fees, returned-payment fees and prepayment penalties. A lower stated rate may not mean a lower-cost offer if fees or repayment rules differ. Review the written agreement, including the consequences of paying early.

Match payment structure and term to the equipment
Equipment-loan terms commonly run two to seven years and often track the asset’s expected useful life, according to NerdWallet’s guide. The right term is specific to the offer and equipment. A longer term can reduce scheduled payments while increasing the time you owe; a short term can create a larger cash-flow burden. Compare the payment amount and whether payments are daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semiannual or seasonal.
Check the down payment and financed costs
Ask what percentage of the equipment price the lender will finance and whether a down payment is required. Some lenders may also finance one-time costs such as delivery, installation, assembly or warranties. Eligible costs and financing percentages vary. Including more costs may reduce the cash needed upfront, but it also increases the amount borrowed and potentially the total repayment.

A practical checklist for choosing a provider
Compare offers on the same equipment purchase and use these criteria:
- Total cost: Compare APR where available, fees and total repayment. For factor-rate offers, request the dollar repayment amount and payment schedule.
- Eligibility: Check credit, time-in-business and revenue requirements before applying.
- Cash required upfront: Confirm the down payment and which equipment or soft costs can be financed.
- Repayment: Compare payment size, frequency, term and early-payoff rules against expected cash flow.
- Timing: Ask how long approval and funding usually take for your application and equipment.
- Equipment and industry experience: Verify that the provider finances the asset type and understands any relevant industry needs.
- Ownership outcome: Establish whether you will own the equipment, have an option to buy, need to renew or must return it.
- Service and reporting: Review the provider’s transparency, payment flexibility, customer service and whether it reports payment activity to business-credit agencies.

Why equipment financing is common
The Equipment Leasing & Finance Association’s Industry Overview, as cited by NerdWallet, says more than 80% of U.S. companies use some form of financing—loans, leases or lines of credit—when acquiring equipment. The cited page does not state the statistic’s year, so it should not be read as a current-year measurement.
