37 Beauty Products to Consider Selling from Home

Makeup, skincare, haircare, nail products, and more are candidates for a home beauty business—but no category guarantees maximum profit. Compare audience fit, costs, fulfillment, channels, and compliance before choosing.

Beauty products you can sell from home include makeup, nail products, perfume, cleansers, haircare, moisturizers, and skincare. But no product category is proven to deliver the highest profit for every seller. Your best choice depends on the customers you can reach, sourcing and packaging costs, shipping needs, sales-channel fees, repeat purchases, and the rules that apply to the product and your business.

This guide is US-focused for business and FDA information. Treat the 37 ideas below as candidates to investigate—not a profitability ranking or a promise of sales.

37 beauty products to evaluate for a home business

These are established cosmetic categories, not recommendations that every item is simple to make or profitable to sell. FDA lists makeup, nail products, perfume, cleansers, haircare, moisturizers, and other skincare products among examples of cosmetics. Your product’s intended use and marketing claims can also affect which rules apply.

  1. Foundation: Consider whether you can serve a specific shade range or customer need. Shade selection can complicate inventory planning.
  2. Concealer: A focused range may be easier to manage than a broad complexion assortment, but test whether it fits your audience.
  3. Powder: Compare the product’s packaging and shipping needs with its price and expected order size.
  4. Blush: Think about how you will explain shades and finishes to online shoppers who cannot try them in person.
  5. Bronzer: Audience fit and clear shade information matter when customers shop remotely.
  6. Highlighter: Evaluate whether the product can stand out through a defined audience or distinctive offering.
  7. Eyeshadow: Color variety can create differentiation, while a larger assortment can increase inventory complexity.
  8. Mascara: Consider packaging, shelf-life guidance from the supplier, and how often your target customers might reorder.
  9. Eyeliner: Decide whether a narrow selection or a wider set of formulas better fits your customers and stock budget.
  10. Lipstick: Shade choice and product presentation are important selling considerations for a product customers may want to see before buying.
  11. Lip gloss: Compare supplier costs, packaging, and the potential for repeat purchases with the audience you can reach.
  12. Lip balm: A small format may be convenient to ship, but calculate packaging and fulfillment costs rather than assuming shipping will be inexpensive.
  13. Makeup brushes: These are tools rather than cosmetics, so they may have different product and labeling considerations from formulas. Check the rules relevant to the item you sell.
  14. Makeup sponges: Consider how you will communicate care and replacement guidance and whether the item fits your sales channel.
  15. Nail polish: Assess packaging and shipping constraints with your carrier and supplier before listing a product.
  16. Press-on nails: Evaluate sizing, design options, packaging, and how you will help buyers choose a suitable set.
  17. Nail files: A simple accessory may complement other products, but its economics depend on order size, sourcing, and fulfillment.
  18. Cuticle oil: Verify the product’s ingredients, labeling, and claims, and avoid assuming it is exempt from applicable requirements.
  19. Nail polish remover: Check shipping restrictions and handling requirements for the specific formula and carrier.
  20. Perfume: Fragrance products can raise shipping and packaging questions. Confirm the supplier’s documentation and carrier requirements.
  21. Body mist: Compare the format, shipping constraints, and intended audience with your fulfillment options.
  22. Face cleanser: Evaluate whether your proposed claims are cosmetic claims or could imply treatment of a condition.
  23. Body wash: Consider packaging weight, leak prevention, shipping expense, and whether customers are likely to reorder.
  24. Facial moisturizer: Assess sourcing, container design, customer fit, and the safety and labeling responsibilities that apply to the product.
  25. Body lotion: Shipping weight and container size can affect fulfillment costs; compare them with your planned price and order economics.
  26. Hand cream: Decide whether a specific audience or use case gives the product a clear place in your assortment.
  27. Sunscreen: Do not treat it as an ordinary cosmetic for compliance planning. Product claims and intended use can bring drug requirements into play.
  28. Face masks: Check formulation and claims carefully, especially if marketing language suggests treatment or changes to body function.
  29. Serums: Review the product’s claims and intended use before selling; skincare positioning alone does not determine its regulatory category.
  30. Exfoliants: Avoid unsupported claims about treating skin conditions, and verify product labeling and safety information.
  31. Shampoo: Compare bottle size, weight, packaging needs, and customer reorder patterns.
  32. Conditioner: Consider whether its size and shipping costs make sense for your expected order value.
  33. Hair oil: Check packaging and leakage risks, and keep product claims within the category supported by its intended use.
  34. Hair styling gel: Evaluate container durability, shipping weight, and demand among the customers you can reach.
  35. Shaving cream: FDA includes shaving cream among examples of cosmetics; compare its packaging, fulfillment, and audience fit.
  36. Beard grooming products: Grooming products can include cosmetics, but claims and product type matter. Check the requirements for the specific item.
  37. Makeup remover: Assess formulation and packaging, and avoid promising a result your product and evidence cannot support.

How to choose products with a realistic path to profit

“Maximum profit” cannot be predicted from a category name. A useful comparison starts with your own costs, target customers, and route to market; the available sources do not establish comparable margins for these categories.

  • Audience fit: Identify who is likely to buy, what they need, and how you can reach them. Market research should inform both product selection and sales planning.
  • Differentiation: Decide why a customer would choose your offer instead of another seller’s. A clear audience or assortment is more useful than unsupported claims that a product is a bestseller.
  • Full costs: Include product sourcing or formulation, packaging, shipping materials, channel fees, payment processing, marketing, customer service, returns, and taxes in your calculation.
  • Repeat purchases: Consider whether customers may reorder and how frequently, without treating repeat business as guaranteed.
  • Fulfillment burden: Account for weight, leakage or breakage risk, storage, carrier rules, and the time required to pack and support orders.
  • Compliance work: Include product safety, labeling, claims review, and business setup in your plan, especially if you make or private-label products.

Retailing or reselling an established product may involve a different workload from manufacturing or private-labeling it. That is a planning distinction, not a blanket legal or profitability conclusion: responsibilities depend on your role and the product.

Choose a sales channel that fits the product and workload

Possible routes include your own online store, marketplace listings, local markets or retail, and wholesale accounts. Compare them on audience reach, fees, control over presentation, fulfillment requirements, and customer-service workload rather than assuming one channel is best for every seller.

The SBA’s 2024 article “5 Small Business Trends for 2025” reported that ecommerce represented “a fifth of all retail sales worldwide” at the time and projected a 22.6% share by 2027. That figure is a forecast published in 2024, not an observed 2027 result, and it does not show that any beauty product will sell. The same article reported that 73% of small businesses had a website.

SBA profiles offer examples, not proof of likely results: Beeline, LLC of Henniker, a home-based skincare manufacturer, sold through its website and wholesale accounts; Zoet Beauty Supply expanded its product selection. Neither example establishes which channel or product is more profitable for another seller.

Understand US cosmetics responsibilities before you sell

FDA’s Small Businesses & Homemade Cosmetics: Fact Sheet states: “If you manufacture or market cosmetics, you have a legal responsibility for the safety and labeling of your products.” Do not assume that selling from home, buying from a supplier, or calling a product natural removes applicable responsibilities.

Product claims can change the rules

FDA explains that intended use and claims help determine whether a product is a cosmetic, a drug, or both. A product promoted to treat or prevent disease or affect body function may face drug requirements. A product’s ingredients or where it sits in a store do not alone settle its classification. Review FDA’s explanation, “Is It a Cosmetic, a Drug, or Both? (Or Is It Soap?)”, before writing product claims.

MoCRA requirements and limited exemptions

The Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act of 2022 (MoCRA) expanded FDA’s cosmetics authorities. FDA describes responsibilities involving responsible persons, safety substantiation, adverse-event reporting, and certain small-business exemptions. An exemption from a specified facility-registration or product-listing requirement is not a general exemption from safety and labeling responsibilities. Check the current FDA MoCRA overview for requirements relevant to your product and role; do not assume a particular exemption applies without verifying it.

Check local requirements for a home-based business

US federal cosmetics rules are only part of the setup. The SBA notes that home businesses may still be subject to local zoning ordinances. Registration, permits, and taxes depend on your location and business structure, so confirm requirements with your state and local authorities. The SBA’s business launch guide is a starting point for checking the setup steps that may apply.

A practical way to compare your shortlist

  1. Choose a small shortlist. Select products that make sense for a specific audience you can reach, rather than trying to stock all 37 ideas.
  2. Check demand directly. Talk with potential customers and examine how comparable products are positioned in the channels you might use. Treat interest as a signal to investigate, not proof of sales.
  3. Build a per-order estimate. List supplier or production cost, packaging, delivery, marketplace or payment fees, marketing, returns, and customer-service time. Use real quotes and channel terms rather than generic margin claims.
  4. Confirm fulfillment feasibility. Ask suppliers and carriers about product handling and shipping constraints before committing to inventory.
  5. Review claims and labels. Establish the product’s intended use, check applicable FDA guidance, and ensure your labeling and marketing do not imply unsupported treatment claims.
  6. Verify business setup. Check zoning, registration, permits, and tax obligations for your location and structure.
  7. Test the sales process at a manageable scale. Track actual inquiries, conversion, costs, returns, and reorder behavior before expanding. Do not mistake broad ecommerce statistics or another business’s story for a forecast of your own results.

For planning beyond product choice, the SBA’s business management guide covers market research, sales planning, marketing, pricing, promotions, and customer support.
