15 Richest Boxers in History, Ranked (2021 Estimate Snapshot)

GOBankingRates’ 2021 ranking offers a dated snapshot of boxing-associated wealth estimates, not an audited or definitive current list of the richest boxers.

There is no audited, consistently measured ranking of the 15 richest boxers. The closest list matching this title is GOBankingRates’ ranking, last updated July 19, 2021. Its figures are publisher estimates—not verified current fortunes—and its list includes boxing promoter Don King. The ranking below preserves that source’s order and makes its date and scope explicit.

“Richest” can mean estimated wealth retained today or money earned over a career. Those are not interchangeable: career earnings may be reported before taxes, fees, spending, debts, and investment results. The figures in the table are GOBankingRates’ 2021 estimates of net worth, not career earnings. GOBankingRates’ list says it compiled its ranking from Celebrity Net Worth’s top-50 list.

15 richest boxers in the 2021 published ranking

These are the estimates and placements GOBankingRates published in its list last updated July 19, 2021. Ties mean the source skips position numbers; the table counts people, not unique rank numbers. Don King is a boxing promoter rather than a professional boxer, so the list is more accurately read as boxing-associated figures than as a strict ranking of fighters only.

People counted Source position Name Published estimate
1 1 Floyd Mayweather $450 million
2 2 George Foreman $300 million
3 3 Manny Pacquiao $220 million
4 4 Oscar De La Hoya $200 million
5 5 Don King $150 million
6 6 Sugar Ray Leonard $120 million
7 7 Wladimir Klitschko $90 million
8 8 (tie) Vitali Klitschko $80 million
9 8 (tie) Anthony Joshua $80 million
10 10 (tie) Marvin Hagler $40 million
11 10 (tie) Bernard Hopkins $40 million
12 10 (tie) Amir Khan $40 million
13 13 Mike Tyson $30 million
14 14 Evander Holyfield $10 million

Although the source calls its article a list of 15, the positions and names supplied in its published ranking account for 14 people when ties are counted. Its numbering skips from 10 to 13 after the three-way tie. The $10 million figure for Holyfield appears in the lower section of the source article. These are reproduced as that publisher’s estimates, not validated valuations. See the dated GOBankingRates ranking.

Why boxer net-worth rankings disagree

Net worth is an estimate of wealth remaining after assets and liabilities are considered. Career earnings measure money generated over time and do not show how much a person still owns. A boxer’s take-home wealth can be affected by taxes, managers and other fees, spending, debt, and investment gains or losses. Public estimates rarely use a shared methodology or publish enough detail to reconcile them.

The difference is visible in the estimates from major publishers. Celebrity Net Worth’s opened list displays Mayweather at $50 million while also saying his career earnings exceed $1.2 billion; GOBankingRates put his estimated net worth at $450 million in its 2021 ranking. Neither number should be substituted for the other or averaged with it. Celebrity Net Worth’s current page also displays Foreman at $300 million, Anthony Joshua at $250 million, Pacquiao at $220 million, and Canelo Alvarez at $350 million. Those are estimates shown on Celebrity Net Worth’s list, not a consistent audited balance-sheet comparison.

Other publishers diverge as well. Sports Illustrated Fannation Boxing has published estimates of $400 million for Mayweather, $300 million for Foreman, and $300 million for Canelo Alvarez. Its list is another publisher’s ranking, not an independent audit that resolves the discrepancy. See Sports Illustrated Fannation Boxing’s top-ten list.

Career earnings are a different ranking

Large career-earnings totals do not establish a boxer’s current net worth. A September 23, 2026 FightBanter article reports Sportico’s inflation-adjusted career-earnings estimate of $1.57 billion for Mayweather. That is a reported earnings figure, not a measure of wealth he retains today. FightBanter’s report should therefore not be compared directly with the net-worth column above.

Similarly, a 2026 SportsMonkie article notes that published estimates of boxers’ wealth can differ substantially and describes Mayweather’s current net worth as disputed. It emphasizes the distinction between earnings and retained wealth; it does not establish an audited top 15. Read SportsMonkie’s discussion of richest boxers.

How boxing-related business can add to a fighter’s wealth

Ring purses are only one possible source of wealth. GOBankingRates reported that Foreman received $138 million in 1999 for the use of his name on the George Foreman Grill. That is a reported payment tied to a business deal, not proof of his current net worth or a recurring annual amount. GOBankingRates discusses the deal alongside its estimate.

What this ranking can—and cannot—tell you

  • It can: show one publisher’s historical, source-specific estimate and order for boxing-associated figures.
  • It cannot: establish who is definitively the richest boxer in 2026, because the available publisher estimates use differing dates and measures and no audited, consistently measured top 15 is established.
  • Read every figure with its source and date: a current-looking page may show a materially different estimate from a ranking published in 2021.
  • Check the inclusion rule: lists that include promoters or other boxing-business figures do not rank professional fighters alone.
