Depreciation can put a V12 car within reach, but a low purchase price is not the same as low-cost ownership. CarCody’s March 7, 2026 article estimated prices for these ten used models; those figures are editorial estimates, not verified current listings or sale prices, and they do not share a stated market, mileage, condition standard, or valuation method. Treat them as rough orientation, then check comparable local listings and the car’s records before setting a budget.
What the listed prices do—and don’t—tell you
The estimates below are in US dollars and come from CarCody’s March 2026 article. They are not market averages or guarantees of what a particular car will cost. Most entries lack a specified location, mileage, condition, and valuation date; several use broad descriptions such as “mid-teens” or “often under.” The Toyota Century figure is described as landed, but destination-specific shipping, taxes, and compliance costs still need checking.

Which V12 cars are represented?
BMW sedans and grand tourer
The E38 750iL and E65/E66 760Li are large luxury sedans; the E31 850i/850Ci is a coupe. BMW Group’s Spain technical material identifies the E38 750i’s M73 as a 5.3-liter V12 rated at 326 CV. Mercedes-Benz luxury sedans, coupe, and roadster
The W220 S600 is a sedan, the C215 CL600 a coupe, and the R230 SL600 a roadster with a retractable roof. Their formats differ, but the article’s cautions point to costly aging systems rather than purchase price alone—especially ABC suspension on the S600 and CL600 and roof hydraulics on the SL600.
Jaguar saloons and sports coupe
The XJS V12 is a long-running grand touring coupe or convertible, while the XJ12 and XJ Sovereign names cover Series III and X305 sedans. The estimate groups the latter together rather than assigning a separate range to each generation.

Aston Martin DB7 V12
The DB7 is the list’s higher-priced entry by the article’s estimate. Its purchase price does not remove the need to budget for specialist servicing.
Toyota Century: check the generation
The V12 claim applies to the second-generation G50 Century, produced from 1997 through 2017. Toyota’s April 18, 1997 announcement identifies its newly developed 5.0-liter 1GZ-FE V12 and describes the car’s focus on quiet, smooth rear-seat travel. Toyota’s 1997 announcement. How to compare the real cost of buying one
These estimates do not establish a cheapest-to-own winner or a reliability ranking. Compare the specific car and your local support options before comparing sticker prices.
- Local market and asking price: Find comparable cars in the same region and note mileage, condition, and whether the seller’s price includes import-related costs.
- Service evidence: Ask for invoices and records, not only a verbal claim that the car was maintained. Prioritize documentation for major work and recurring systems.
- Specialist access: Check whether a marque specialist and suitable parts are available where you live. A low-cost car can become difficult to maintain if expertise or parts are scarce.
- Model-specific exposure: Include cooling and electronics checks for the BMWs; ABC suspension on the S600 and CL600; roof hydraulics on the SL600; cooling, wiring, and fuel delivery on the XJS; and rust, electrical condition, and rubber components on the XJ models.
- Import costs: For a Century or another imported example, verify destination rules, compliance, shipping, taxes, and access to parts before treating a landed estimate as your total budget.
- Inspection and repair reserve: Arrange a pre-purchase inspection with a specialist familiar with the model. Build a separate allowance for immediate work and ongoing maintenance rather than spending the entire budget on the purchase.
Why the cheapest example can be the expensive choice
These are complex, aging luxury cars. Cooling systems, electronics, suspension, roof mechanisms, fuel delivery, rubber components, and parts access can all affect the cost of putting an example right. A car with a lower asking price may have deferred maintenance; paying more for documented care can be the more prudent choice, but records and an inspection—not the seller’s price—must support that decision.
