There is no reliable, date-neutral list of the world’s 10 cheapest hotels: a room’s price changes with travel dates, room type, demand and availability. The MICHELIN Guide highlights affordable One- and Two-Key hotels across six continents, including stays with reported rates below $50 a night. At the other extreme, Guinness World Records lists The Mark Penthouse in New York at a published nightly rate of $114,767 including taxes, as of April 22, 2025. That is a named suite’s record price, not the hotel’s ordinary room rate.
Why “cheapest hotel in the world” is not a fixed ranking
A hotel can be inexpensive on one date and much dearer on another. Season, weekday, local events, room category and remaining availability all affect the price, so a list without common dates, occupancy, taxes and booking conditions cannot establish the absolute cheapest hotels worldwide.
The MICHELIN Guide’s affordable-hotel selection is a curated set of One- and Two-Key stays in cities and countryside across six continents—not an audited ranking of the world’s ten lowest prices. It says many featured hotels fall in the $150–$250 nightly range, while some cost less and peak-season rates can rise. Those are indicative figures, not live quotes for your travel dates. Another notably low starting figure in the MICHELIN Guide selection is $100 per night at InterContinental Resort Jiuzhai Paradise in China. Starting prices and broad ranges are useful for identifying candidates, but neither guarantees a room at that price on a particular date.
What is the most expensive hotel room per night?
For a specifically defined published-rate record, Guinness World Records names the five-bedroom Mark Penthouse at The Mark hotel on Madison Avenue in New York. Its record page gives a nightly rate of $114,767 including taxes, as of April 22, 2025, and notes that records may change. Other lists use different methods and dates. CEO Today’s May 19, 2026 ranking estimates peak prices for flagship suites rather than documenting a standardized set of rates confirmed by the hotels. It puts The Mark Penthouse at an estimated $75,000, in contrast to Guinness’s dated published-rate record. For a useful comparison, set the same dates, number of nights, guest count and room category for each property. Compare the total payable price—not just a headline nightly rate—and check what is included and whether the booking can be cancelled.

- Use the same occupancy and room type when comparing hotels.
- Check whether taxes and fees are included in the displayed total.
- Review cancellation terms, minimum-stay rules and included benefits.
- Confirm availability and the final amount directly with the hotel or booking channel before paying.
Hotels.com’s 2026 Hotel Price Index reports Sunday as its least expensive night domestically and internationally in its data, with Fridays and Saturdays the most expensive. It also reports savings for some last-minute bookings. These are broad findings about its data, not a promise that Sunday or a last-minute booking will be cheapest at a particular hotel.
