There is no universally best used Lexus hybrid: the right choice depends on the exact car’s condition, price, body style, fuel-economy rating and warranty. These ten Lexus hybrid nameplates are candidates to compare, not a ranked list or a guarantee that any example is a good buy. Lexus model availability and specifications vary by market and model year.
How to choose among used Lexus hybrids
Start with the type of vehicle that fits your daily use, then compare specific examples. A sedan, hatchback, crossover and coupe serve different needs; a model name alone does not establish value, reliability or condition.
- Price and condition: Compare vehicles with similar model years, trims, mileage and condition. The sources cited here do not establish current used prices for these Lexus models.
- Fuel economy: Check the official rating for the exact model year and market. Do not apply a newer generation’s figure to an older car.
- Safety: Look up crash-test information for the exact year and configuration rather than assuming a newer model’s rating applies.
- Daily use: Consider passenger and cargo needs, seating, and whether you want a sedan, hatchback, crossover or coupe.
- Warranty: Check the in-service date, mileage, jurisdiction and warranty booklet for the specific vehicle. Battery coverage is not necessarily identical across years or markets.
Edmunds’ general approach to selecting recent used hybrids, as reported by the Associated Press, considered fuel-economy ratings, brand-level reliability, crash-test scores and appeal as a daily driver. Those criteria can help organize your comparison, but they do not rank these Lexus models or establish the condition of an individual car: Associated Press report.
10 Lexus hybrid models to investigate
Lexus’s model histories document the following launches and lineup appearances. The list spans different periods and markets, so availability of used examples will depend on where you shop.

1. Lexus RX 400h
Launched in 2005, the RX 400h was Lexus’s first hybrid. It is a crossover option for shoppers considering an early Lexus hybrid; assess each vehicle’s age, condition and service history rather than treating its place in the brand’s history as a buying recommendation.
2. Lexus RX 450h
The RX 450h replaced the RX 400h in 2009. Compare the specific year and configuration with other crossovers on your list, using that year’s market-specific fuel-economy and safety information.
3. Lexus GS 450h
Lexus launched this hybrid sport sedan in 2006. It may suit buyers seeking a sedan rather than a crossover, but the exact vehicle’s condition and fit matter more than the nameplate’s historical positioning.
4. Lexus LS 600h
The LS 600h, a hybrid flagship sedan, launched in 2007. Consider it if you want a large sedan, and evaluate the particular car’s price, service records and inspection results before deciding whether it makes sense for your budget.

5. Lexus HS 250h
Lexus introduced the HS 250h as a dedicated hybrid sedan in 2009. Check local listings and exact-year specifications; the historical lineup information does not establish how readily it is available in your market today.
6. Lexus CT 200h
The CT 200h compact hybrid hatchback launched in 2011. Its hatchback body style distinguishes it from the sedans and crossovers here. Confirm that its passenger and cargo space suit your needs, then compare individual examples.
7. Lexus ES 300h
Lexus launched the ES 300h hybrid sedan in 2012. Check the model-year-specific specifications and safety information for any car you consider; figures from later ES versions should not be assumed to apply to earlier ones.
8. Lexus NX 300h
The NX 300h crossover was introduced in 2014. It is another crossover candidate alongside the RX models, but the available sources do not establish a model-by-model reliability score or a current used-price advantage.

9. Lexus UX 250h
The UX 250h appeared in Lexus Europe’s 2019 hybrid lineup. That European lineup reference does not establish availability, naming or specifications in every market, so verify local model-year details before comparing one with other candidates.
10. Lexus LC 500h
The LC 500h hybrid coupe was also included in Lexus Europe’s 2019 hybrid lineup. Its coupe body style serves a different purpose from the hatchbacks, sedans and crossovers on this list; consider it only if that format fits your use and budget.

This is not a complete worldwide catalogue. Lexus’s 2019 European lineup also included the IS 300h, RC 300h, RX L 450h and LS 500h. A 2016 Lexus Canada release named the IS 300h, GS 300h and RC 300h among its hybrids as well. These regional and historical lists illustrate why buyers should check local inventory and model-year specifications rather than assume the ten candidates above are the only relevant choices.
Understand the hybrid type and warranty
Lexus describes its conventional hybrid system as combining an electric motor and gasoline engine without requiring an external plug-in charge. A plug-in hybrid can be charged externally and also uses gasoline. Lexus’s current category pages also distinguish performance hybrids and battery-electric vehicles; verify the exact model year and drivetrain rather than treating all electrified Lexus vehicles as the same type.

The announcement listed 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever came first, for other specified hybrid-system components. These are historical U.S. terms for covered 2020 vehicles, not a blanket warranty promise for older cars or other countries. Confirm eligibility and coverage in the individual vehicle’s warranty guide: Lexus USA’s 2019 announcement.
What the history does—and does not—tell you
Lexus International reported that it had sold 1,000,600 hybrid vehicles in 11 years as of the end of March 2016. That is historical context about the brand’s sales, not a reliability statistic or evidence that a particular used vehicle is a sound purchase. The model histories establish that these nameplates existed; they do not provide a current ranking, Lexus-specific used prices, comparative reliability scores, recall status or model-by-model inspection findings.
For any candidate, base the decision on the actual car: compare like-for-like asking prices, review maintenance records, check applicable safety and recall information, arrange an independent inspection and verify remaining warranty directly against the vehicle’s documents. An attractive model name cannot substitute for evidence about an individual car.
