No. Tesla’s official biography lists Elon Musk’s degrees as a B.A. in physics and a B.S. in business from the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School—not an engineering degree.
What degrees does Elon Musk have?
Tesla’s official biography says Musk holds a Bachelor of Arts in physics from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in business from the university’s Wharton School.
Knowledge at Wharton likewise describes his studies as physics in Penn’s School of Arts and Sciences and undergraduate business at Wharton. It notes that he left in 1995 and technically graduated in 1997; those dates are best understood with that distinction rather than as one simple graduation year.
How is that different from an engineering degree?
Physics and business are distinct academic fields from engineering. The degrees named in the Tesla biography therefore do not amount to an engineering degree. Musk’s technical leadership and association with engineering-focused companies are separate from the academic credentials listed by these sources.

What the available biographies do—and do not—establish
The American Physical Society also describes Musk as having studied physics and economics at the University of Pennsylvania, corroborating the general academic context. For the precise degrees, Tesla and Knowledge at Wharton give the clearest descriptions.
These biographies report the degrees they identify; they are not a complete transcript or exhaustive record of every course, certificate, or credential. They do not establish whether Musk took any engineering coursework, and they do not measure his engineering ability.
