The figure describes the film’s domestic opening weekend—not its worldwide or lifetime box office.
What did Tron: Ares earn on opening weekend?
The Associated Press reported on October 12, 2025, that Tron: Ares earned $33.5 million in the United States and Canada over its opening weekend, citing Comscore Sunday estimates. The Numbers and Box Office Mojo list the U.S. opening at $33,241,433. The small difference reflects rounded contemporaneous reporting versus database totals, not a materially different account of the film’s debut.
AP said the movie opened at No. 1 while falling short of expectations. “Slow start” is a characterization of that result, rather than a formal box-office category; the opening-weekend figure alone does not establish the film’s eventual commercial performance.
How does the opening compare with Tron: Legacy?
In its October 12 report, AP compared Tron: Ares’s debut with the $44 million opening it reported for Tron: Legacy 15 years earlier. On that comparison, Ares opened below its predecessor. This is a comparison of domestic opening weekends as reported by AP, not a comparison of the films’ full theatrical runs or inflation-adjusted earnings.

- Get ready for the electrifying action and adventure of “Tron: Ares.” When a highly sophisticated Program named Ares is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, it marks humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
What is known about the film’s budget?
Published budget figures differ. The Numbers lists a $180 million production-budget estimate, while AP reported a project cost of around $150 million. Neither figure is established here as a definitive official budget, so the estimates should not be treated as interchangeable or used to declare whether the opening made the film profitable. A film’s financial outcome depends on its full run and other revenues and costs, not just its first weekend at the domestic box office.
Which film and release does the opening refer to?
Disney identifies Tron: Ares as a feature directed by Joachim Rønning and lists October 10, 2025, as its theatrical release date. Its principal cast includes Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson, and Jeff Bridges. Disney also identifies Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails as composers of the score.
