What Simon Jordan said about Southampton
On 28 April 2025, Loft For Words reported that the Daily Echo had attributed the comment to Jordan on his talkSPORT show. Loft For Words reproduced his wording as: “There is a rumour going around that Southampton are up for sale but the fact of the matter is that they have all gone down with no great credit.” The preceding sentence, also reproduced in the report, was: “On the basis of performances this season, Ipswich haven’t got any more stability than Southampton.” Loft For Words’ report presented the sale claim as a rumour; it did not report a confirmed process.
How the follow-up qualified the claim
A follow-up published two days later described the story as speculation. Saints Marching quoted broadcaster Adam Blackmore: “I had heard a rumour about [Southampton FC] being for sale, but I think most clubs are all the time in reality – maybe [Sport Republic] put feelers out but I think Dragan [Solak] is committed for now.” The brackets are part of the wording reproduced by the outlet. Blackmore’s comment acknowledged hearing a rumour while offering no confirmation of a sale process. Saints Marching’s follow-up likewise treated the matter as speculation.
Who owns Southampton now?
Southampton FC’s official leadership page says St Mary’s Football Group Ltd owns 100% of the club. Sport Republic is the group’s majority owner, Katharina Liebherr retains a minority stake, and Dragan Šolak is identified as the club’s Ultimate Beneficial Owner. The club announced in January 2025 that Henrik Kraft was stepping down as chairman and Šolak, described as majority shareholder of the ownership group, would take on the club chairmanship.

On 12 May 2026, Southampton CEO Phil Parsons wrote that “Dragan Solak continues to support the club financially” and said the club was operating within financial regulations.
