Seat 11A is named in a United passengers’ complaint as an example of a seat allegedly sold as a window seat despite having a blank cabin wall beside it. The claim concerns certain Boeing 737-900 aircraft, not every seat 11A. Separate proposed class actions against United and Delta allege that passengers paid to select seats described as window seats without being told they lacked a window. The allegations have not been proved.
Why seat 11A is in the news
In a complaint filed August 19, 2025, passengers suing United alleged that the airline charged for seats presented as window seats even though some were beside a solid wall. The complaint cites seat 11A on certain United Boeing 737-900 aircraft as an example and alleges that the online selection process described every seat next to a wall as having a “window.” These are plaintiffs’ allegations, not established findings. The row and seat number alone do not establish whether a seat has a window. The complaint’s example is limited to certain aircraft; it does not establish that every 11A seat is windowless.
What the Delta and United complaints allege
United
The United case, Brenman et al. v. United Airlines, Inc., No. 3:25-cv-06995, alleges that passengers paid to choose seats represented as window seats but encountered a wall instead. The complaint was filed on August 19, 2025. United complaint

Delta
In a separate complaint filed the same day, Nicholas Meyer alleged that he selected Delta seat 23F and was not warned during selection that it lacked a window. The Associated Press described both cases as proposed class actions and reported that Delta and United declined to comment at the time, citing pending litigation. A proposed class action is not proof that an airline did anything wrong, nor does filing a complaint mean a class has been certified. The materials available for these cases do not establish a verified count of affected passengers or seats.

Where the cases stand
United: the case passed an early dismissal motion
On July 6, 2026, Judge James Donato denied United’s motion to dismiss in Brenman. The order describes alleged breach-of-contract, implied-contract, and promissory-estoppel theories. Denying the motion allows the case to proceed past that stage; it is not a ruling that United is liable, a final judgment, class certification, or an award of damages. July 6, 2026 court order
Delta: later status is not established here
The available sources confirm the filing of Meyer v. Delta Air Lines, Inc., No. 1:25-cv-04608, but do not establish its latest procedural status. It would be inaccurate to describe the case as either dismissed or decided on this basis. Delta complaint Associated Press report

What travelers should check before paying for a seat
Seat labels and selection options can depend on the carrier operating the flight, aircraft configuration, itinerary, and fare. Delta’s official guidance says seat-selection availability can vary by operating airline. It also notes that seats marked unavailable may be held for family seating, passengers with disabilities, or crew. - Check the operating airline. For a codeshare or connecting itinerary, identify which airline operates each flight and check that airline’s current seat map.
- Match the map to the aircraft. Confirm the aircraft model and configuration shown for your specific flight, then inspect the row and seat rather than relying on the letter alone.
- Review the selection terms before paying. Delta says paid upgrades are typically non-changeable and non-refundable subject to the original fare rules, and cannot be purchased once check-in closes. Read the terms that apply to your booking. Delta upgrade policy
- Keep the confirmation and map. If the seat differs from what you believe was represented, retain your booking confirmation and any relevant seat-map details, then contact the operating airline about the specific itinerary and applicable terms.
Delta’s U.S. Contract of Carriage page reports a last modification date of August 18, 2026. That date alone does not resolve whether a particular passenger has a claim; the terms applicable to the itinerary and circumstances matter. Delta U.S. Contract of Carriage
