Campbell’s said it believed a recording released by former employee Robert Garza captured then-Vice President Martin Bally, and said Bally was no longer employed by the company as of November 25, 2025. The recording excerpt was reported to include a remark about chicken “from a 3D printer”; that remark is not evidence that Campbell’s uses such meat. The company says it uses real chicken from U.S. suppliers and does not use 3D-printed or lab-grown chicken in its soups.
What did the recording say?
Local 4 reported an excerpt in which the speaker referred to “bioengineered meat” and said he did not want to eat chicken “from a 3D printer.” The Associated Press also reported that Local 4 played part of the recording. The full recording has not been independently reviewed for this account, so the excerpt should be understood as reported speech, not an independently authenticated transcript.
Campbell’s said it first heard segments of the recording on November 20, 2025, and after reviewing them believed the voice was Bally’s. In a November 26 statement, the company said: “After a review, we believe the voice on the recording is in fact Martin Bally.”
Did Campbell’s fire the VP?
Campbell’s said Bally was no longer employed as of November 25, 2025. The company did not describe that decision as a firing in the statements cited here; the confirmed point is that he was no longer employed, following the company’s voice-identification review.

Did Campbell’s use 3D-printed chicken?
The reported remark does not establish what ingredients Campbell’s uses. The company denies using 3D-printed chicken, lab-grown chicken, or artificial or bioengineered meat in its soups. It says its chicken comes from long-trusted, USDA-approved U.S. suppliers. In its November 25, 2025 newsroom statement, Campbell’s wrote: “Campbell’s soups are made with real chicken. Period.”
Campbell’s also says its soups use chicken raised without antibiotics. That is a company statement about its products and sourcing; the available statements do not amount to an independent regulator’s finding about the claim.

What does “bioengineered food ingredients” mean on a label?
Campbell’s says the label term “bioengineered food ingredients” refers to ingredients derived from crops such as corn, soy, canola, or sugar beets—not chicken. That explanation is the company’s account of its labeling and ingredients.

Garza, a former Campbell’s employee, filed a lawsuit in Michigan in November 2025, according to the Associated Press and WDIV/ClickOnDetroit. He alleged that he reported Bally’s comments, was fired in retaliation on January 30, 2025, and experienced a racially hostile work environment. Those are allegations in the lawsuit, not court findings established by the sources cited here.
