How those offers compare with the market snapshot dated October 16
CD Valet’s October APY Checkpoint is dated October 16, 2025—one day after the title date. It analyzes online-published CD rates and describes a dataset of more than 38,000 retail CD rates from nearly 5,000 banks and credit unions. The figures below are thresholds for the top 10% and top 25% of rates in its dataset, plus the median; they are not issuer quotes or exact October 15 market figures.

CD Valet’s Head of Marketing & Communications, Mary Grace Roske, said: “Savers settling for anything less than 4.00% Annual Percentage Yield (APY) on new 12-month CDs are leaving money on the table.” That is a marketplace spokesperson’s view; the checkpoint’s 4.00% figure is the top-decile threshold for 12-month CDs in its October 16 dataset, not a guaranteed rate or a universal recommendation.

How to decide whether a CD offer fits
The highest APY is only one part of the decision. A CD commits money for a stated term, so compare the return with the time you can leave the deposit untouched and the cost of needing it early.
Rank #2
- APY: Compare annual percentage yields, not just advertised interest rates, and check whether the quoted APY and account conditions still apply.
- Term: Match the maturity date to when you expect to need the money. The selected offers above range from six to 60 months.
- Minimum deposit: Confirm that the amount required to open the account fits your available savings.
- Early access: Read the account agreement for withdrawal restrictions and any early-withdrawal penalty. Ask the issuer how the penalty is calculated before opening.
- Eligibility: Verify that you can open the account and meet any issuer requirements.
Check the bank or credit union’s current offer and account agreement before funding a CD; dated APYs and minimums can change.

The FDIC’s April 2026 table lists a national deposit rate of 1.53% for one-year CDs. This is a later official benchmark, not an October 2025 rate and not the best advertised APY. The FDIC says its CD averages represent the $10,000 and $100,000 product tiers and explains its weighted national-rate calculation; its rate page is generally updated on the third Monday of each month.
