LevelTen Energy planned to lay off 60 workers in Seattle beginning Aug. 15, 2025, according to a report by GeekWire published Aug. 4. The reported cuts were tied by the company’s CEO to federal budget legislation, tariff uncertainty and permitting challenges; those are the company’s stated reasons, not independently established causes.
How many workers were affected, and when?
GeekWire reported that LevelTen Energy planned to eliminate 60 positions, with the layoffs taking effect Aug. 15, 2025. The report cited a notice released by the Washington State Employment Security Department (ESD). Read GeekWire’s Aug. 4, 2025 report.
Washington ESD’s WARN database is the primary place to check employer notices. The database describes records as including the employer and location, affected-worker count, effective date, layoff or closure type and permanence, date received, and a downloadable notice. Search Washington ESD’s WARN database.
A secondary index of the state record lists LevelTen’s notice as received Aug. 1, 2025, for 60 Seattle workers, effective Aug. 15. Because the individual notice has not been independently reviewed here, consult the downloadable ESD notice to verify the filing date and any additional details. See Washington Labor Intel’s WARN index.

Why did LevelTen say it was cutting jobs?
CEO and founder Bryce Smith told GeekWire the company made “strategic workforce changes to align with the economic impacts of the recent federal budget legislation, tariff uncertainty, and ongoing permitting challenges.” He also said, “By streamlining our structure and adopting the latest technology tools, we’re maintaining our strong financial footing.” These statements describe the company’s explanation; the reporting does not independently establish those factors as causes or verify the company’s financial condition.
In a statement published by Latitude Media on Aug. 12, 2025, Smith said: “We have weathered ever-changing markets since 2016, and we’re fully prepared to achieve our current and long-term commercial and environmental priorities.” That is the company’s outlook, not independent confirmation of its financial position. What the reported number does—and does not—tell you
The 60 figure is the reported number of affected workers, not a verified percentage of LevelTen’s total workforce. The cited reporting and notice index do not provide a reliable denominator, so they do not establish what share of employees the layoffs represented. They also do not establish a job-title breakdown or whether LevelTen made additional workforce changes later.
