The 15 Talent Agents Named in a 2016 ‘Who Runs Hollywood’ List

The 15 names were ranked in a 2016 article, not measured as today’s most influential Hollywood agents. CAA’s later acquisition of ICM and dated leadership listings put the roster in context.

The 15 names below come from a list published on April 13, 2016—not a current ranking of Hollywood’s most powerful agents. Its headline promised the agents who “run Hollywood,” but the post gave no scoring method, and its roster and agency affiliations should be read as claims made at that time. Agency consolidation and later leadership changes make that distinction especially important.

The 15 agents in the 2016 list

The original article ranked these people in descending order. The affiliations shown here reproduce how that 2016 post described them; they are not a verified account of anyone’s current agency or client roster. [Source: 2016 article]

2016 rank Name Affiliation reported in the article
15 Cindy Osbrink Osbrink Talent Agency
14 Theresa Peters UTA
13 Jeremy Zimmer UTA
12 Fred Specktor CAA
11 Rick Nicita Formerly CAA and Morgan Creek
10 Sam Gores Paradigm
9 Sharon Jackson WME
8 Jim Wiatt Formerly WME
7 Tracey Jacobs UTA
6 Brian Swardstrom UTA
5 Patrick Whitesell WME
4 Richard Lovett CAA
3 Bryan Lourd CAA
2 Ari Emanuel WME
1 Kevin Huvane CAA

What changed after the list was published

CAA incorporated ICM Partners

CAA completed its acquisition of ICM Partners in June 2022, so ICM should not be treated as a separate peer in a present-day retelling of the old agency landscape. [Los Angeles Business Journal, 2025 agency list]

Later directories show a broader leadership picture

A 2025 Los Angeles Business Journal directory lists Richard Lovett, Bryan Lourd, and Kevin Huvane as CAA co-chairs, with Lourd also identified as CEO. [Los Angeles Business Journal, 2025 agency list] In April 2024, Sports Business Journal described managing directors working alongside those leaders and CAA President Jim Burtson on strategic and operational matters, underscoring that agency leadership extends beyond a few prominent names. Ownership context also changed: Axios reported in September 2023 that Artémis was acquiring TPG’s majority stake in CAA, with existing leadership expected to remain and Lourd to become CEO after closing. The later directory provides the more current dated leadership snapshot available here. [Axios, September 2023]

For UTA, a 2024 Los Angeles Business Journal agency list identifies Jeremy Zimmer as CEO. That dated title is useful context, but it does not validate the old article’s ranking or its client claims. [Los Angeles Business Journal, 2024 agency list]

How much weight should you give the ranking?

The 2016 post is useful as a historical snapshot of which agents and agencies its author highlighted. It does not explain how “influence” was measured, and the available later directories do not establish a comparable current ranking. It also claimed that four agencies represented more than 70% of entertainment-industry actors, directors, writers, and musicians, but supplied no source, date, geography, denominator, or method. That percentage is therefore unsupported by the article, not a verified industry statistic. [2016 article]

Likewise, its reported client rosters and career anecdotes should be attributed to that post rather than presented as independently confirmed facts. One sentence it attributed to Theresa Peters via The Hollywood Reporter was not verified against the original interview, so it should not be treated as a confirmed quotation. The sources available here do not establish an apples-to-apples measure of the agents’ present-day influence.
