Rapid7 Command Platform is an enterprise security platform for finding, prioritizing, and responding to threats and exposures across endpoint, cloud, and on-premises environments. Its two initial offerings, Exposure Command and Surface Command, address exposure management and asset visibility. Rapid7 bases Exposure Command pricing on the average number of monitored assets, but does not publish a retail price; buyers need a sales quote.
What Rapid7 Command Platform includes
Rapid7 launched Command Platform on August 5, 2024, describing it as a unified threat-exposure, detection, and response platform. It brings together native cloud and on-premises assessments with security, IT, and business-tool data so teams can discover assets and risks, prioritize them, and take action.
The platform launched with two offerings. Exposure Command focuses on assessing and reducing exposures; Surface Command builds an inventory of internal and external assets. Rapid7 said Surface Command was included with Exposure Command at launch and that the two Exposure Command tiers both include it.
Exposure Command
Exposure Command assesses hybrid endpoint and cloud environments and uses environmental context and automated risk scoring to help teams prioritize remediation. At launch, Rapid7 described prioritization based on exploit likelihood and potential impact, effective cloud-permission monitoring, lateral-movement-path visualization, infrastructure-as-code (IaC) scanning, and more than 50 compliance packs containing thousands of policy checks.

- Simplified Management and Deployment: Features a user-friendly management console that provides comprehensive network automation and visibility, coupled with Zero Touch Integration with Fortinet’s Security Fabric for easy deployment.
The practical purpose is to help a security team distinguish a likely, consequential exposure from a long list of findings. The product also aims to connect assessment to remediation rather than treating vulnerability discovery as the end of the workflow.
Surface Command
Surface Command combines external attack-surface management (EASM) with cyber asset attack-surface management (CAASM). Rapid7 described a dynamic inventory that correlates data from more than 100 connectors using a machine-learning engine. The stated use cases include finding assets that lack endpoint controls or vulnerability scans, identifying shadow IT, assigning asset ownership, and adding asset context to incident response.
How Rapid7 says it prioritizes exposures
Exposure Command’s risk picture is intended to go beyond a vulnerability’s severity score. Rapid7’s launch description emphasized exploit likelihood, potential impact, permissions, and lateral movement. In its February 25, 2025 update, Rapid7 added AI-driven vulnerability scoring and described Remediation Hub recommendations that combine severity, asset context, reachability, and exploitability.

- HARDWARE PLUS SECURITY SERVICES: FortiGate-60F Firewall Appliance bundled with 1 year of FortiCare Premium and FortiGuard Unified Threat Protection.
- UNIFIED THREAT PROTECTION (UTP): Secures against advanced online threats with comprehensive web filtering and anti-botnet technologies.
- OPTIMIZED FOR MEDIUM-SIZED BUSINESSES: Tailored for businesses needing robust security without the infrastructure of larger enterprises.
- RELIABLE CUSTOMER SUPPORT: FortiCare Premium ensures high-quality support and service continuity.
- EFFECTIVE PROTECTION: Employs advanced filtering technologies to safeguard against sophisticated threats.
That 2025 update also added sensitive-data discovery across multi-cloud environments, drawing on integrations such as AWS Macie, GCP DLP, Microsoft Defender, and IaC tagging. Rapid7 said the resulting data insights feed layered context and attack-path analysis, helping teams assess whether an exposure could lead to sensitive information.

The company described eBPF-based sensors and AI baselining to analyze live workloads and correlate runtime signals with posture and business context. It also announced continuous monitoring of AI-driven workloads, automated response actions such as pausing or quarantining processes, and prioritization that maps sensitive data and identity access to attack paths.

What the updates mean for scope and integrations
Rapid7’s Command Platform announcement and subsequent updates describe an expanding scope: asset inventory and exposure assessment at launch, sensitive-data context in 2025, and runtime validation, DSPM, and AI-workload monitoring in 2026. The announcements establish what Rapid7 says it added, but do not by themselves establish how the features perform in a particular organization’s environment.
Integration counts also vary by source and should not be treated as one directly comparable measure. Rapid7’s 2024 launch description cited more than 100 Surface Command connectors. A 2025 Rapid7 announcement quoting an IDC assessment reported 275 integrations; Rapid7’s own benefits list reported more than 290 integrations and more than 550 prebuilt remediation workflows. Those counts have different stated sources and contexts, so a buyer should check the current connector list and confirm that the specific data sources and workflows needed are supported.
How pricing and packaging work
Rapid7 says pricing is based on the average number of monitored assets. Exposure Command has two tiers based on cloud maturity, and both include Surface Command. The launch announcement did not publish tier names, feature-by-tier details, a per-asset rate, or a public retail price; it directs prospective customers to request a demo or contact sales.

- Runs UniFi Network for full-stack network management
- Manages 30+ UniFi Network devices and 300+ clients
- 1 Gbps routing with IDS/IPS
- Multi-WAN load balancing
- 0.96" LCM status display
For budgeting, asset count is therefore only the starting input, not enough to calculate a defensible price from public information. Ask Rapid7 or a reseller for a written quote that defines how monitored assets are counted, the measurement period used for the average, the selected cloud-maturity tier, included modules and integrations, and any implementation or managed-service costs. Confirm whether the scope covers endpoints, cloud resources, workloads, and other asset classes relevant to your environment.
What to evaluate before requesting a quote
For an enterprise purchase, compare the proposed deployment against your existing tools and operating model rather than relying on a broad feature list. Use a proof-of-concept or scoped demonstration to test representative assets and workflows where available.
- Coverage: Map the endpoints, cloud environments, on-premises systems, containers, and applications you need to assess. Confirm what is included in the quoted scope.
- Asset and identity context: Test whether the platform can reconcile assets from your actual sources, assign ownership, and represent relevant permissions and access paths.
- Prioritization: Ask how exploitability, reachability, business impact, sensitive data, and attack paths affect ranking, and whether analysts can understand why a finding was prioritized.
- Remediation workflow: Validate how recommended fixes reach responsible teams, what actions can be automated, and which require approval or integration with other systems.
- Compliance and IaC: Identify the required standards and development workflows, then confirm applicable policy checks and IaC scanning in the proposed tier.
- Integration fit: Match the vendor’s current connector list to your specific tools and data sources. Clarify which integrations are native, what configuration is needed, and what data is exchanged.
- Operational requirements: Establish the sensors, permissions, deployment effort, support model, and any managed-service requirements needed to operate the capabilities you plan to use.
Rapid7 reported more than 11,500 customers worldwide in its February 2025 announcement. That is a company-reported customer figure, not an independent measure of product effectiveness or a substitute for checking fit with your own environment.
