Why did Anomali appoint Rubaie?
The board said it wanted a CEO to lead the company into its next growth phase. In the appointment announcement, board member and General Catalyst Managing Director Dr. Steve Herrod said, “Together with Hugh, the board worked to bring in a new CEO to drive the next phase of growth for the company.”
Anomali’s release presented Rubaie’s technology leadership, operating experience, innovation record, talent development, and customer focus as reasons for the appointment. Those statements describe the board’s rationale, not measured results from the leadership change.

What was Rubaie’s background?
Anomali’s 2021 announcement described Rubaie as having more than three decades of global technology leadership experience. It cited strategic expansion and business-transformation work at Ariba and Sitecore, cybersecurity investment and board activity, and service as an adjunct professor at Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business. The announcement listed a B.A. in Economics from Albion College and a J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy Law School.
