The Fire HD 8 was reported at $64.99, down from $99.99, on August 18, 2025—a $35 saving, or 35% off the stated comparison price. That is a dated deal, not a verified offer today: the available Amazon deals page does not confirm a current Fire HD 8 price. Check the live listing and checkout total before treating the discount as available.
What the reported discount actually means
TechRadar reported the Fire HD 8 at $64.99 against a $99.99 comparison price on August 18, 2025. The arithmetic is straightforward: $99.99 minus $64.99 equals $35, and $35 divided by $99.99 is about 35%. That verifies the percentage against the reported comparison price; it does not establish that $99.99 was the tablet’s usual selling price over time or that the deal was an all-time low.
The report does not establish which storage, RAM, color, or ad-supported version qualified, nor whether it required Prime or a manually selected coupon. Amazon’s deals page does not provide a verifiable current price in the available result, so the 2025 offer should be treated as historical unless the live product page shows otherwise. Which Fire HD 8 are you looking at?
“Fire HD 8” can refer to multiple models. Amazon’s specifications list separate 2022 and 2024 releases, both identified as 12th-generation devices. The 2024 model is the newer configuration; do not rely on a listing’s “latest model” wording alone. Confirm the release year, model number, RAM, and rear camera in the product details. Amazon lists the 2024 model numbers as KFRAPWI for 3GB RAM and KFRASWI for 4GB RAM.

| Model | RAM | Storage | How to distinguish it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fire HD 8 (2024 release) | 3GB or 4GB | 32GB or 64GB | Model KFRAPWI (3GB) or KFRASWI (4GB); 5MP rear camera |
| Fire HD 8 (2022 release) | 2GB or 3GB | 32GB or 64GB | Older release; verify listing details rather than relying on “12th Gen” alone |
Both generations have overlapping specifications, so a broad product name or generation label is not enough to identify the version. Amazon’s Fire tablet specifications provide model details; Amazon’s 2024 announcement describes the updated model and entertainment focus.

Is it a good buy for your use?
Good fit: inexpensive entertainment and everyday use
The compact screen and Amazon ecosystem suit Kindle reading, audiobooks, supported streaming services, browsing, music, casual games, recipes, and travel. Amazon positions the device for entertainment and browsing. At a genuinely low checkout price, it can make sense as a secondary household screen or a basic tablet for someone who already uses Amazon services.
For storage, 32GB is the leaner choice for streaming-first use if you are willing to manage downloads. Choose 64GB if you expect to keep more videos, music, games, or children’s content on the device. A microSD card can hold additional files, but it does not make every internal-storage or app-installation limitation disappear.

Less suitable: demanding work or broad app flexibility
The 1280 × 800 display is functional, but it is not especially sharp for dense web pages, comics, or detailed photo work. The small screen and budget hardware are not a strong match for demanding multitasking, advanced games, professional creative work, or replacing a laptop. Fire OS’s app and service compatibility also deserves a check if you rely on Google-dependent apps or a particular Android app.
Standard, Kids, and ad-supported versions
A Kids or Kids Pro edition is not simply the standard tablet in a different-colored case. Amazon’s launch configurations describe child-focused bundles that include protective cases, Amazon Kids+, and extended warranty coverage; the editions target different age groups. If the tablet is for a child, compare the bundle with buying a standard model and separate accessories or services. Amazon’s Kids and Kids Pro announcement.

Some Fire tablets display sponsored screensavers on the lock screen. Amazon says eligible devices can be made ad-free through a separate one-time payment, so confirm whether the advertised configuration includes lock-screen ads and what any removal costs before comparing prices. When another tablet makes more sense
| Option | Consider it when… | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Fire HD 10 | You want a larger screen for video or documents. Amazon lists a 10.1-inch 1080p display, 3GB RAM, and up to 13 hours of battery life. | It is less compact; check its live price and configuration before comparing value. |
| Fire Max 11 | You want a larger Amazon tablet with 4GB RAM and support for Amazon’s stylus and keyboard accessories. | It is a higher-tier device, not the natural choice when minimizing spend is the priority. |
| Samsung or Lenovo Android tablet | You prioritize a conventional Android experience and broader Google Play ecosystem. | Compare the exact model and current price; no current prices are established here. Samsung tablets · Lenovo tablets. |
| Apple iPad | You prioritize Apple’s app ecosystem, performance, or platform continuity. | It is generally a more expensive category; compare current models and prices. Apple iPad. |
Check these details before checkout
- Confirm the model. Look for the release year, model number, RAM, storage, and camera details; do not infer the version from “Fire HD 8” or “12th Gen” alone.
- Check the exact edition and variant. Make sure the price applies to the standard, Plus, Kids, or Kids Pro model you intend to buy, and to the selected color and storage capacity.
- Read the price conditions. Verify whether the displayed amount requires Prime, a manually selected coupon, or another promotion, and check the final checkout total.
- Check the ad status and seller. Confirm whether the listing is ad-supported and whether it is sold by Amazon or a third-party seller.
- Review fulfillment terms. Check shipping timing and the return policy for the specific listing before placing the order.
For a current offer, start at Amazon’s Fire HD 8 product page, then confirm the final price in your cart. A stated percentage off is only useful if it applies to the configuration you want and the final price fits your budget.
