PayPal Credit is a reusable, revolving credit account offered by Synchrony Bank that you can use through PayPal checkout. Approved applicants may receive either a digital credit line or a PayPal Credit Card; you cannot choose which one. The account can provide six months of promotional financing on qualifying purchases of $149 or more, but interest may be charged from the purchase date if you do not pay the promotional balance in full by its deadline.
How PayPal Credit works
PayPal’s terms define PayPal Credit as an open-end revolving credit card account offered by Synchrony Bank. It is credit—not money held in your PayPal balance and not a fixed-term loan for one purchase. As you borrow and make payments, available credit changes according to your account activity and credit limit.
You can apply through PayPal’s website or app. PayPal says applicants provide their date of birth, after-tax income, and the last four digits of their Social Security number. Approval is required, and the product is available to eligible US customers who are the legal age to apply in their state. PayPal says a declined application does not affect your credit score; an approved application results in a hard inquiry that may affect it. PayPal’s product page and help article describe application and account access.
What’s the difference between PayPal Credit and the PayPal Credit Card?
They are two forms of access associated with PayPal Credit, not two products you can select between when applying. PayPal says approved customers may receive a digital credit line or the PayPal Credit Card, and the lender determines which form is issued.

How the six-month financing offer works
PayPal advertises six months of special financing on qualifying purchases of $149 or more. Minimum monthly payments are still required during the promotional period. The key condition is the payoff deadline: under the terms for deferred-interest promotional purchases, if the full promotional balance is not paid by the end of the period, interest is imposed from the purchase date at the applicable variable purchase APR. This can make a missed deadline costly even if you made the required minimum payments along the way. Check the offer and account terms for the qualifying purchase and exact expiration date before relying on the promotion. PayPal’s product page and terms describe the offer.

- Double check if the URL/website is genuine before entering card details online. Do not provide any gift card details (example: claim code) to someone you do not know or trust. There are a variety of scams in which fraudsters try to trick others into paying with gift cards.

How PayPal Credit differs from PayPal Pay Monthly
PayPal Pay Monthly is a separate product: an interest-bearing installment loan issued by WebBank. PayPal describes its fixed APR as 9.99% to 35.99%, based on creditworthiness, and says each intended financed transaction requires a new application. PayPal Credit, by contrast, is one revolving account that can be reused. The products have different structures and application processes, so check which one is offered at checkout. PayPal Pay Monthly’s page provides its product details.

What to check before using PayPal Credit
- Promotion: Confirm that the purchase qualifies, note the promotional end date, and determine how much you must pay each month to clear the balance by then.
- Ongoing borrowing cost: Compare the variable APR and applicable fees with other ways to pay. A promotional period does not remove the standard rate if a balance remains after the offer expires.
- Access: Check whether you have the digital line, which is used through PayPal checkout, or the card, which can be used at Mastercard-accepting merchants.
- Application impact: Consider that approval can result in a hard inquiry, which may affect your credit score.
