Chipotle’s free guacamole required a digital order
Chipotle’s February 29, 2024 offer was a free small side or entrée topping of guacamole with a full-priced entrée and the code EXTRA24. Customers had to order through the Chipotle app or Chipotle.com; in-restaurant orders and third-party delivery platforms were excluded. It was limited to one serving per order, subject to availability, at participating U.S. and Canadian locations during regular business hours. The company listed these conditions in its February 21, 2024 announcement.
A separate Instagram contest was not the same deal
Chipotle also ran an “Extra Day, Extra Codes” contest from February 26 through February 28, 2024. It hid keywords in Instagram content; eligible fans could text the keywords for a chance to win free guacamole for a year. Chipotle said up to 29 fans could win. The official rules described up to 29 drawings during the promotion and specified that the 366th eligible texter for each keyword drawing would be the potential winner. Eligibility was limited to legal residents of the 50 U.S. states and Washington, D.C., who were at least 18. This contest was separate from the one-day EXTRA24 offer and its entrée purchase requirement.
