Put your LinkedIn URL in your resume’s contact header beside your email and phone number. Use a short, professional public-profile URL, make it clickable in digital versions, and keep the text visible for print. Include it only when your profile is current and adds useful information.
Should you include your LinkedIn URL?
Include it when your profile is professional, up to date, and consistent with your resume. It is most useful when it adds relevant context—such as professional experience or work samples—that does not fit on the page. LinkedIn describes public profiles as simplified versions of the full profile that anyone can see, so review what is publicly visible before sharing it. LinkedIn’s profile guidance says, “A complete LinkedIn profile will increase your discoverability and profile search appearances.”
Leave the URL off until you have updated an incomplete profile, corrected differences from your resume, or added information that makes it worthwhile. Notre Dame career services cautions that a LinkedIn profile can be an asset or a liability, and Monster similarly advises against linking an incomplete or mismatched profile.
How to find your public LinkedIn URL
- On desktop: Select Me, then View Profile. Look for the URL under Public profile & URL.
- On mobile: Open your profile and look for the link under Contact info.
- Check that a public profile is enabled. LinkedIn says the URL may not appear if your account has no public profile.
- Copy the address and test it. It commonly starts with
www.linkedin.com/in, though country-specific prefixes can appear. Use the complete, working address shown for your profile.

How to customize your LinkedIn URL
A custom URL is easier to read and type than a long string of characters. LinkedIn recommends a variation of your name or professional brand. In the URL settings, choose a professional version that is available; if your exact name is taken, a distinguishing initial or genuine credential may help.
LinkedIn’s current custom public profile URL guidance says the custom portion must be 3–100 characters, cannot contain spaces, symbols, special characters, or the word “LinkedIn,” and is case-insensitive. A desired address may already be claimed, and LinkedIn says it cannot release a claimed URL on request. You can change your URL up to five times in six months; after the fifth change, you cannot change it again for six months. Pick a stable version rather than repeatedly experimenting.

Where to put it and how to format it
Place the URL in the contact header with your other contact details. Keep it short and legible, for example: linkedin.com/in/jordan-lee. Confirm that the displayed text matches your actual profile address.
A simple header might look like this:

For a digital resume, hyperlink the visible URL and click it after exporting to PDF to make sure it still works. For a paper copy, keep the URL readable without relying on the hyperlink. Monster’s QR-code advice is context-dependent: a code may suit an event or portfolio-focused setting, but it is not a universal resume requirement. If you use one, test it and retain your contact details in text.
