That figure is an attributed estimate, not a verified or audited valuation of his estate. Reports also say his will left his estate to his widow and intentionally excluded his five children, but the reported inheritance and the net-worth estimate are different things.
How much was Tony Curtis worth when he died?
Inside Edition reported in 2011 that Curtis’s widow, Jill Curtis, described his estate as worth an estimated $60 million. Celebrity Net Worth also lists $60 million as his net worth at death, though that is a secondary estimate rather than an estate accounting. Neither figure establishes a precise, audited total. Inside Edition’s 2011 report and Celebrity Net Worth’s estimate are the basis for the commonly repeated $60 million answer.
A 2011 WELT interview with Curtis’s daughter Allegra included an $85 million figure in the interviewer’s question. That phrasing does not establish the figure as a verified valuation or as a confirmed alternative to the $60 million estimate. WELT’s interview therefore should not be read as proof that Curtis was worth $85 million.
What is known about who inherited his estate?
Inside Edition reported that Curtis’s will left his estate to Jill Curtis and said the will, written about five months before his death, intentionally excluded his children. The outlet reproduced the will’s wording: “I acknowledge the existence of my children…and have intentionally and with full knowledge chosen not to provide for them.” The underlying will and probate docket are not independently reviewed here, so these details should be understood as reported by Inside Edition.
#1 Best Overall
Inside Edition also reported that one daughter contested the will and that the challenge was denied. In a separate 2011 account, Paramount Press Express quoted Jill Curtis as saying that nearly half a million dollars had been left for Curtis’s seven grandchildren. She described this as provision for his adult children through their children; the amount is her account, not a reviewed trust accounting. Allegra Curtis disputed the circumstances surrounding the will. The same report described court-paper allegations that the disinheritance resulted from “duress, menace, fraud or undue influence by Jill Curtis and/or others.” Those were allegations, not established findings. Paramount Press Express’s 2011 release quotes the family statements and reports the allegations.
How to interpret the other amounts reported
| Amount | What it refers to | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| About $60 million | Estimated estate or net worth at death | Jill Curtis’s estimate reported by Inside Edition in 2011; also listed by Celebrity Net Worth as net worth at death. Neither is an audited valuation. |
| $85 million | Figure raised in an interview question | WELT, 2011; the interviewer’s question does not verify the amount. |
| More than $1 million | Proceeds from a Curtis estate auction | Forbes contributors Danielle and Andy Mayoras reported the 2011 Julien’s Auctions result. Auction proceeds are not the total value of an estate. |
| Nearly half a million dollars | Funds Jill Curtis said were provided for seven grandchildren | Jill’s statement quoted by Paramount Press Express / Inside Edition in 2011; no trust accounting was reviewed. |
The auction report said proceeds benefited Jill Curtis, with a portion supporting the couple’s charity. It describes a particular sale, not the amount Curtis owned overall. Forbes contributors’ 2011 auction report gives the sale figure.
Why an exact estate value cannot be confirmed from these reports
Net worth is not interchangeable with the gross value of probate property, the amount received by an heir, or proceeds from selling selected belongings. A complete calculation would need an accounting of assets and liabilities, including any property transferred outside probate. The cited reporting does not provide an estate inventory, probate accounting, tax filing, trust instrument, or a reviewed financial statement. It therefore cannot establish the exact net worth, final estate value, non-probate assets, liabilities, or ongoing royalty income.
