Founder D’Ontra Hughes accepted Mark Cuban’s offer on air, but later reports say the deal never closed. The reason it fell through has not been established.
What was SPARE’s Shark Tank pitch?
SPARE appeared on Season 10, Episode 20, which aired April 21, 2019, according to AllSharkTankProducts. Hughes pitched a mobile cash-access service: a user requested an amount in the app, received directions to a registered shop and a one-time PIN, then presented the PIN to the shopkeeper to collect cash. The idea was to provide access to cash at participating retailers without requiring a conventional ATM.
Hughes sought $500,000 for 3.5% equity. He accepted Cuban’s reported counteroffer of $500,000 for 12% equity plus 2% advisory shares, as reported by SlashGear and Shark Tank Insights.
Did Mark Cuban’s deal close?
Later reporting says the agreement did not close and Cuban did not invest. The sources reporting the outcome do not establish why the deal fell through, so claims about due diligence, valuation or disagreements should be treated as speculation rather than fact.

What does SPARE do now?
SPARE’s official website currently presents the company as a virtual ATM network connecting financial institutions’ apps with participating retailers’ point-of-sale systems. In the described workflow, a customer requests cash access through a bank or credit union app, selects a nearby retailer and completes the transaction at the register.
This is a different emphasis from the original consumer-facing standalone app: the financial institution’s app is the customer interface, while the retailer’s existing POS handles the in-person transaction. SPARE markets its solutions to banks, credit unions, retailers and resellers, and lists a Clover POS app integration. That description reflects the company’s public positioning; it does not independently verify the network’s usage, reach or performance.

Is the original SPARE app still available?
BGR reported in February 2026 that SPARE’s app was missing from Apple and Android app stores while the company maintained an online presence: BGR. SPARE’s current website describes its app-to-POS network but does not clearly say whether the original standalone consumer app is available. The dated app-store report therefore should not be read as confirmation of its status today.

SlashGear reported annual revenue of $4 million in late 2023. That is a historical figure attributed to SlashGear, not a current revenue number or a figure verified against primary company financial statements.
