GST compliance software is jurisdiction-specific: a product that works for one authority or e-invoicing network may not meet another’s requirements. Choose for your actual workflow and verify any required connection or listing with the relevant authority before subscribing.
Start with your tax authority and obligations
Before comparing products, establish which tax authority you report to, whether you are registered for GST, what returns and transaction types apply, and whether your business must use digital reporting or e-invoicing. Confirm the answers with the authority or a qualified local tax or bookkeeping adviser. A generic “GST-ready” claim does not establish compatibility with a specific portal, filing format, or invoice network.
Requirements differ by country. Australia’s ATO guidance emphasizes digital reporting and SBR compatibility. Singapore’s IRAS is introducing InvoiceNow submission requirements in phases for GST-registered businesses. India’s e-invoice system involves prescribed data and submission to the Invoice Registration Portal. These are examples, not an exhaustive survey of GST rules.
Check the software against your day-to-day bookkeeping
Look for a system that captures the transactions you need to report and produces usable GST detail for the return you actually file. Australian government small-business guidance recommends software that the business can understand and operate, supports required recordkeeping and digital ATO reporting, and fits both current and future needs.
#1 Best Overall
- Manage your payments and deposit transactions
- Check balances and generate reports to monitor your business finances
- Email and fax reports to your accountant
- Create and track quotes, invoices and more
- Connect to the app with secure web access
Assess the workflow against your business rather than buying a long feature list. Depending on the business, useful capabilities may include:
- Sales and purchase records, invoices, refunds, and adjustments.
- GST reports that support preparation and review of the relevant return.
- Inventory, foreign-currency transactions, payroll, or multiple accounts or entities, if you use them.
- Backups, security controls, and access for the people who maintain or review the books.
- Compatibility with your accountant, tax agent, or bookkeeper’s systems.
Ask whether the specific edition and configuration you are considering includes the functions you need; features can differ across plans and product versions.
Verify tax-authority and e-invoicing connections
Where a tax authority requires or recognizes a particular digital connection, check the authority’s current register or guidance for the exact product, edition, and capability. Do not rely on a vendor’s general “compliant” label alone.

Australia
The ATO defines eInvoicing as standardized invoice-data exchange through the secure Peppol network. Its eInvoicing Ready product register describes certified Ready products as able to send or receive a valid invoice through an Accredited Australian Peppol Service Provider and register a business to the network. Ready+ adds specified best-practice data. The ATO notes that low-volume businesses may find free or low-cost products suitable, but advises checking provider criteria. A product’s eInvoicing status does not, by itself, establish that it meets every bookkeeping or business need.

IRAS says InvoiceNow is Singapore’s national Peppol-based e-invoicing network and that in-scope GST-registered businesses must submit invoice data using InvoiceNow-Ready solutions according to phased implementation dates. The IRAS GST InvoiceNow guidance lists 1 April 2026 for businesses applying for voluntary GST registration on or after that date, and dates from 1 April 2028 through 1 April 2031 for specified existing groups based on annual supplies. IRAS also says some registrants notified before 2026 have been told their implementation date from mid-2026, while some other dates will be communicated later. Check the current IRAS guidance for your business’s applicable date and category.
IRAS’s ASR+ accounting software register lists software by supported tax products, including GST return submission and InvoiceNow readiness. IRAS says it performs integration testing of listed software, but does not warrant or represent that other aspects, such as security and functionality, are suitable. Treat inclusion as a signal about tested integration, not an endorsement or a substitute for evaluating the product.

India
India’s official e-invoice guidance describes software that can create the prescribed JSON, interact with the billing or accounting system, and support submission to the Invoice Registration Portal. Its selection considerations include instant and bulk invoice generation, bulk cancellation, integration with return filing and e-way bills, reliable error handling, and data security.
The National Informatics Centre describes information transfer from the e-invoice portal to GST and e-way bill portals as a way to reduce manual re-entry and support return-data population. These are stated system benefits; they do not guarantee a particular vendor’s performance or remove the need to review the resulting records. See the NIC GST – E Invoice project page.

- Can it identify missing, duplicate, or mismatched transaction data?
- How does it handle bulk invoice generation, failed submissions, amendments, and cancellations?
- Can you see what changed, who made the change, and whether it was accepted by the relevant service?
- Can staff review exceptions before information flows into a return or another report?
India’s official e-invoice guidance specifically calls out bulk handling, cancellations, error handling, integration, and security. The underlying principle applies broadly: verify the workflow with realistic examples from your own operations rather than assuming that automation will catch every error.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Protect records through export and migration
Before committing, check what records you can export, whether source documents remain linked to transactions, and how you can retrieve records after ending a subscription or changing systems. Confirm the export format, the time needed to retrieve an archive, and whether the provider’s process preserves usable supporting records.
Retention periods depend on jurisdiction. In Singapore, IRAS says that when changing accounting software, old transactions need not be migrated into the new product, but must be retained for at least five years from the year of assessment or the end of the GST accounting period in the circumstances described in its guidance. Associated documents must also be retained and retrievable on request. This Singapore-specific example is not a universal GST retention period; consult the relevant authority for your own obligations. See IRAS GST record-keeping guidance.

Compare practical fit, security, and total cost
Once you have ruled out products that do not meet your jurisdiction’s requirements, compare the remaining options on the factors that affect daily work and continuity:
- Capacity and usability: Does the product suit your industry, invoice volume, users, and number of entities? Can the people handling your books operate it confidently?
- Adviser support: Can your accountant or tax agent access the information and review reports in a workable format?
- Security and recovery: Ask about access controls, backups, recovery procedures, and how the provider handles business data.
- Support: Check what help is available when a filing or integration problem occurs, and whether the support channel suits your needs.
- Total cost: Compare recurring fees and transaction or usage charges at your expected scale, including the cost of additional users, entities, or features.
Official guidance establishes these as relevant considerations, but it does not provide a comparable current price survey across vendors. Request a quote for the exact edition and usage level you expect, and verify any product listing or capability that may have changed.
