DRAM and NAND prices rise or fall with supply and demand, but there is no single “memory price.” Suppliers’ capacity choices, customer inventories and contracts, product mix, and end-market affordability make prices diverge between server, PC, mobile, and consumer products. Higher prices can lift memory makers’ revenue and margins, but the effect depends on shipments, costs, and what they sell.
What sets DRAM and NAND prices?
DRAM and NAND Flash are produced by a concentrated group of suppliers that make decisions about which products receive manufacturing capacity. When demand for available bits outstrips supply, suppliers have greater pricing power. When inventories are ample or buyers pull back, that leverage can weaken.
Capacity allocation shapes supply by product
Manufacturing capacity is not interchangeable across every memory product. Suppliers can prioritize products such as high-bandwidth memory (HBM), server DRAM, or enterprise SSDs, leaving a different amount of supply for PC, mobile, graphics, and consumer markets. TrendForce said suppliers were continuing to prioritize advanced-process DRAM capacity for high-performance server products in its 30 September 2026 outlook.
This helps explain why AI and data-center demand can support server memory and enterprise SSD pricing without creating identical price movements for every consumer product. TrendForce’s 30 September outlook described enterprise SSDs as the category where price growth was accelerating, while buyer inventories and limited purchasing needs constrained NAND increases in several consumer-facing categories.

Demand, inventory, and contracts affect bargaining power
Cloud providers and other large customers may secure supply through long-term agreements, while customers with existing inventory may delay purchases. Procurement timing and the type of agreement affect negotiating leverage. A contract-price forecast therefore should not be read as a spot-market quote or the price a shopper will see for a memory kit or SSD.
TrendForce’s 31 March 2026 outlook described AI and data-center demand as worsening the supply-demand imbalance and noted that cloud service providers were securing supply through long-term agreements. By its later forecasts, weaker consumer demand and affordability concerns were moderating some increases. Those shifts can alter the balance of power between suppliers and customers over time.

What is the current outlook for memory prices?
TrendForce’s 30 September 2026 forecast projects conventional DRAM contract prices to rise 10–15% quarter over quarter in 4Q26, and NAND Flash contract prices to rise 15–20%. These are forecasts for specified contract categories, not realized prices and not universal changes in retail prices.
| Category | TrendForce 4Q26 forecast | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Conventional DRAM | Up 10–15% quarter over quarter | Contract prices; forecast published 30 September 2026 |
| NAND Flash | Up 15–20% quarter over quarter | Contract prices; forecast published 30 September 2026 |
The pace varies by segment. TrendForce reported ongoing server and AI demand, but also consumer-side pressure: high memory costs were feeding into notebook prices in 3Q26, while affordability limited how much device makers could raise prices. In NAND, enterprise SSD demand from cloud providers was stronger than in several consumer-facing categories.

For context, an earlier TrendForce forecast published 31 March 2026 projected much steeper 2Q26 increases: 58–63% quarter over quarter for conventional DRAM contract prices and 70–75% for NAND Flash contract prices. Those were forecasts for that quarter, not a description of what was ultimately realized or a replacement for the later 4Q26 outlook.
How do memory prices affect chipmakers?
When a supplier can charge more for memory, its revenue and gross margin can improve, provided that shipments, product mix, and costs do not offset the pricing benefit. Revenue is not a direct measure of price alone: it also reflects how many bits are shipped and which products are sold. Gross margin further depends on production costs and execution.

Micron illustrates the possible effect—not a universal result
Micron reported fiscal Q3 2026 DRAM revenue of $31.3 billion, up 343% year over year, and NAND revenue of $9.9 billion, up 361% year over year. The company said DRAM prices rose in the low-60s percentage range sequentially while bit shipments increased in the low-single-digit percentage range. For NAND, it reported price increases in the mid-80s percentage range and bit shipments up in the mid-single-digit percentage range.
Micron’s consolidated gross margin was 84.9%, up 10 percentage points sequentially. In prepared remarks, CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said the improvement was driven primarily by higher pricing and also benefited from continuing strong execution and favorable mix. That is a company-specific explanation, not proof that every memory supplier will see the same results: companies differ in product exposure, manufacturing costs, shipment growth, and customer agreements.

Why higher memory prices can also hurt buyers
Memory is a component cost for PC, smartphone, and other device makers. When it rises, a device maker can pass some of the increase through to customers, accept lower margins, or adjust the memory and storage configurations it offers. How much it can pass on depends on competition and what buyers can afford.
TrendForce’s 3 July 2026 outlook described weakening consumer demand and affordability as constraints on further price increases, while its 30 September outlook noted pressure on notebook prices and continued consumer-side limits. If devices become less affordable, buyers may delay purchases or choose lower configurations. That can eventually soften demand for memory and limit suppliers’ pricing power.
Quick Recap
How to interpret a memory-price headline
- Identify the memory type: DRAM and NAND are different markets, and HBM, server DRAM, client SSDs, and enterprise SSDs can move differently.
- Check the customer segment: AI and data-center demand may support server products even when PC, mobile, or consumer demand is weaker.
- Check the price measure: A contract forecast does not establish a spot price or a retail price for a specific component.
- Separate price from company performance: Revenue and gross margin also depend on bit shipments, product mix, costs, and execution.
- Read the date and period: Forecasts change as supply, inventories, and demand change; a forecast for one quarter is not a reported outcome for another.
