How much did Dune: Part Two make on opening weekend?
The film’s recorded domestic opening was $82,505,391 across 4,071 theaters from March 1 through March 3, 2024. Box Office Mojo lists a per-theater average of $20,266 for that weekend. “Domestic” here means the U.S. and Canada, and the figure covers the three-day opening frame.

Why did early reports say $81.5 million?
The Associated Press reported a Sunday studio estimate of $81.5 million domestic on March 3, 2024. That was the contemporary estimate, not the later recorded weekend total. Box Office Mojo and The Numbers subsequently list $82,505,391 for the same domestic weekend. The figures reflect different reporting vintages, rather than different territories.
AP’s report separately estimated $97 million in international earnings and a $178.5 million worldwide debut. Those were estimates reported on March 3; they should not be added to or confused with the later-recorded $82.5 million domestic figure.

What audience and premium-format context was reported?
Boxoffice Pro’s weekend analysis reported an A CinemaScore and a 5/5 PostTrak score for the film, along with strong performance in premium formats and IMAX. These are audience-score and format observations from that industry analysis, not additional box-office totals.
Mary Parent, producer of both Dune films and chairman of worldwide production at Legendary, told the Associated Press: “It was made for the big screen and it feels like it’s being received as a cinematic event.” That is Parent’s assessment of the reception, not a measured explanation for ticket sales.

How should the opening be compared with another film?
Use like-for-like figures. A useful comparison should match the territory (domestic or worldwide), reporting window, estimate or final-record vintage, theater count, and whether the total covers a three-day weekend or an extended holiday frame. The $82.5 million figure is a later-recorded domestic three-day opening; AP’s $81.5 million was a Sunday estimate, while its $178.5 million worldwide figure was also an estimate.
