Re:

Will Polymarket Move Existing Bets to Its New Contracts?

Polymarket’s Protocol V2 rollout targets canary and planned new markets; existing positions are not reported to convert automatically. Here’s how that differs from April’s CLOB V2 exchange upgrade.

No. Polymarket’s October 2026 Protocol V2 rollout is not reported to automatically convert existing positions into positions under the new contracts. The rollout is focused first on canary markets and planned net-new markets. That does not mean existing bets disappear: the available reporting says they remain on the current system, but does not establish how or when any legacy positions might later be handled. The reported November 2 transition date is tentative, not a guarantee.

What happens to an existing Polymarket position?

For the October Protocol V2 rollout, existing positions are not automatically being moved into new-contract positions. The Block reported on October 6, 2026 that Polymarket had begun production canary markets using a redesigned smart-contract system, with the initial transition intended for new markets. Existing positions remain on the current system, according to that report.

That distinction matters: not being converted is different from being lost. The October rollout reporting does not say that open positions are erased, nor does it specify a future conversion or migration process for them. Check Polymarket’s notices for updates about the markets you hold.

Protocol V2 and CLOB V2 are different upgrades

Both upgrades use the name “V2,” but they address different parts of Polymarket. CLOB V2 was an exchange-stack upgrade completed in April 2026. Protocol V2 is the later redesign of the smart contracts used for markets.

CLOB V2 exchange upgrade Went live April 28, 2026; introduced new exchange contracts, a rewritten central limit order book backend, and pUSD collateral. Polymarket says positions in active markets carried over and resolve normally. Pre-cutover V1 orders were cleared and had to be recreated. Website users had pUSD wrapping handled with a one-time approval. API traders and builders needed V2 SDKs or updated raw order signing.
Protocol V2 market-contract rollout Canary markets were reported in production on October 6, 2026. A transition for net-new markets on November 2 was reported as tentative, following canaries through October 30. Existing positions are reported to remain on the current system, not automatically convert to new-contract positions. The reporting does not establish a general order-clearing rule for this rollout. No required migration of existing positions is established. Follow Polymarket’s current market and platform notices.

Polymarket’s April CLOB V2 guide documents the exchange cutover and its technical requirements. Read the CLOB V2 migration guide. The April position and order guidance is also covered in Polymarket’s exchange-upgrade help article.

Positions, open orders, and collateral are not the same thing

Positions

A position is an existing holding in a market. For the April CLOB V2 cutover, Polymarket’s help article said: “Positions in active markets carry over and resolve normally.” That is a specific assurance about the April exchange upgrade; it should not be mistaken for a promise that October Protocol V2 automatically migrates positions into new contracts.

Resting orders

An open limit order is an instruction waiting in the order book, not a filled position. During the April CLOB V2 cutover, resting V1-era orders were wiped. Polymarket’s migration guide states: “Open orders from before the CLOB V2 cutover were wiped. If you had resting V1-era orders, they did not migrate and must be re-created with V2 order signing.” If you were trading through that April change, you needed to place again any order you still wanted. This April rule does not establish what happens to orders during the separate Protocol V2 rollout.

Collateral and API access

The April CLOB V2 change also affected how trades were funded and submitted. Polymarket’s guide says the website handles pUSD wrapping with a one-time approval. API users and developers needed to switch to the V2 SDK or update raw order signing; V1 SDKs and V1-signed orders are no longer supported in production. These are exchange and trading-tool changes, not instructions to migrate existing positions to Protocol V2 contracts.

What should you do now?

  • If you hold a position: Do not assume it has been converted to a Protocol V2 contract. Check the market page and Polymarket’s current notices for any market-specific instructions.
  • If you have an unfilled order: Distinguish it from a position. The April CLOB V2 cutover cleared resting orders, but the available reporting does not establish an equivalent rule for Protocol V2.
  • If you use the API: Follow the CLOB V2 documentation for exchange compatibility. Do not treat those API changes as a position-migration requirement.
  • For rollout timing: The November 2, 2026 move to net-new markets was reported as tentative on October 6. It may change, so rely on current Polymarket announcements rather than treating that date as confirmed.

Polymarket Status recorded completion of the April cutover on April 28, 2026; it is a useful place to check operational notices alongside the platform’s help and developer documentation. View Polymarket Status history.
