Your UAN is the identifier for accessing EPFO member services. For a new UAN or activation, EPFO’s current notice directs members to Aadhaar-based face authentication through UMANG; use the EPFO member portal for account services such as passbook access, KYC updates and eligible claim tasks. The channels serve different purposes, and a claim’s availability depends on your account and current rules.
What the UAN, UMANG and EPFO portal each do
The Universal Account Number (UAN) identifies a member for EPFO’s online services. EPFO’s member interface accepts a UAN and password for login, but its current notice says direct UAN allotment and activation through that portal have been discontinued. It directs members to use Aadhaar-based Face Authentication Technology (FAT) through the official UMANG app instead. EPFO member interface · EPFO’s 2025 circular on UAN allotment and activation
| Channel | Use it for | Verification or access |
|---|---|---|
| UMANG | UAN allotment or activation using face authentication | Aadhaar-linked OTP and face verification prompts, as directed in the app |
| EPFO member portal | Member account services, including passbook, KYC and claim tasks | UAN and password login; additional claim verification may apply |
| EPFO passbook and claim-status service | Passbook access and claim-status lookup | Use the official service entry point and follow its current prompts |
EPFO’s 2025 circular describes installing UMANG and Aadhaar Face RD, choosing the UAN service through face authentication, then following the OTP and face-verification prompts. App names and menu labels can change, so use the current in-app instructions rather than old portal activation walkthroughs. The circular says members can subsequently access functions including passbook viewing, KYC updates and claim submission. Read the circular
Which EPFO services can be handled online?
EPFO materials identify online access to the EPF passbook, KYC updates, nominations and claims. EPFO’s 2023 Employees Information Booklet says members can download a passbook through the Member Portal and may file withdrawal, advance and pension claims through the Member Portal or UMANG, subject to eligibility. The passbook service also provides a claim-status route. EPFO Employees Information Booklet · EPFO Member Passbook and Claim Status

Common claim forms
- Form 19: PF final settlement by a member.
- Form 10C: pension withdrawal benefit or a scheme certificate.
- Form 31: part withdrawal or an advance in specified cases.
These form descriptions do not mean every member can file every form online. The form available to you depends on the claim purpose, recorded employment details and applicable eligibility rules. EPFO claim-forms information
How to submit a claim and follow its status
- Open an official route. Use the EPFO member portal or UMANG and sign in, or complete the identity verification requested for the service.
- Review your member record. Check that your UAN, profile and service details are correct and that required KYC information is recorded.
- Choose the claim that matches your situation. Select the eligible claim type and complete the on-screen verification and submission steps.
- Keep the acknowledgement. Save the reference details shown after submission, then use the official “Know Your Claim Status” service to check progress.
EPFO’s older online-claim FAQ lists an activated UAN, a working mobile for activation, Aadhaar seeded in EPFO with OTP-based UIDAI e-KYC, and a bank account with IFSC seeded in EPFO among online-claim conditions. It says PAN should be seeded for final-settlement claims where service is less than five years. Because this FAQ dates to 2017, treat those details as published guidance, not confirmation of today’s requirements; check the live portal for the rule attached to your claim. Eligibility details in EPFO’s older FAQ
For Form 19, the FAQ lists joining and exit dates on record, no current employment in a covered establishment, and filing no earlier than two months after leaving. For online Form 10C pension withdrawal benefit, it gives a service-duration requirement of more than six months and less than 9.5 years. These are figures from the 2017 FAQ; verify current claim-specific requirements through EPFO before filing. The 2023 information booklet also describes claims as subject to eligibility.
Processing times and portal notices
There is no fixed settlement time established here. EPFO’s member interface has carried a temporary notice that services are live in phases following database consolidation and that claims or service requests may take longer than usual during an initial two-week stabilization period, with additional validation. This is a volatile notice, not a standing processing-time promise; check the live portal to see whether it is still displayed. Check the current EPFO member interface notice

Protect your UAN and claim information
EPFO warns that it does not request personal information such as Aadhaar, PAN or bank details over the phone, and does not ask members to deposit money. Reach EPFO through its official domain and use the official UMANG app route. Do not disclose your password, OTP or sensitive identity and financial details to unsolicited callers or message senders claiming to represent EPFO.
