Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf you can’t sign in to EPFO, choose the fix that matches the problem: use Forgot Password if you still have your registered mobile, follow the identity-check route if you don’t, activate a UAN through UMANG, or check for a service interruption before retrying. EPFO’s Member Interface is the login route; current UAN activation and generation are handled through UMANG face authentication.
Choose the recovery route for your problem
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Forgot password; can receive texts on the registered mobile | Reset it through Forgot Password on the Member Interface. |
| Registered mobile changed or unavailable | Use the alternate identity/KYC recovery option shown during password reset. |
| UAN needs activation or a new UAN is needed | Use UMANG’s UAN Services Through Face Auth. |
| OTP, login or other service error persists | Check EPFO’s live service notice, avoid repeated attempts during peak periods, and contact the listed helpdesk if needed. |
Log in to the EPFO Member Interface
Open the EPFO Member Interface. The login form asks for your UAN, password and CAPTCHA. If you don’t know the password, select Forgot Password rather than repeatedly trying guesses.
Reset a forgotten password
If you still have the registered mobile
- On the Member Interface, select Forgot Password.
- Enter your UAN and the CAPTCHA, then follow the portal’s prompts.
- Enter the OTP sent to the mobile number seeded with your UAN and complete the password reset.
These are the steps described in EPFO’s FAQ on UAN and KYC. Portal wording can change, so follow the options displayed on the official page.
If you cannot use the registered mobile
During password recovery, choose the option for another mobile number if it appears. EPFO’s FAQ describes entering your name, date of birth and gender, then providing Aadhaar or PAN for KYC matching. If the submitted details match, enter the new mobile number, verify its OTP and continue with the password reset. Use only the identity details requested inside the authenticated portal flow.
#1 Best Overall
After you regain access, EPFO says you can change the UAN-linked mobile number in Member Profile. If your Aadhaar is not linked to a mobile number, the FAQ advises visiting an Aadhaar Service Centre.
Troubleshoot an OTP that does not arrive or work
First check that you are using the mobile number registered or seeded with your UAN, and that the number entered in the portal is correct. For the errors covered in EPFO’s UMANG UAN Services manual, the listed steps include rechecking incorrect Aadhaar or mobile details and resending or re-entering a failed OTP.
Rank #2
- Confirm the entered mobile or Aadhaar information before requesting another OTP.
- If the page offers it, request a new OTP and enter the current code according to the on-screen instructions.
- If repeated attempts fail, stop and check for an EPFO service notice; a delivery or backend problem is not necessarily a password mistake.
The manual’s remedies apply to the errors it describes; they do not establish one cause or a guaranteed fix for every OTP failure.
Activate or generate a UAN through UMANG
EPFO’s current Member Interface says portal-based UAN activation has been discontinued. Activation of an existing UAN and generation of a new UAN are now routed through UMANG using Aadhaar-based Face Authentication (FAT).
Rank #3
- Open UMANG and go to EPFO Services.
- Select UAN Services Through Face Auth.
- Choose UAN Activation and follow the instructions shown in the app.
For activation errors covered in the UMANG manual, recheck the Aadhaar or mobile information, resend or re-enter the OTP when prompted, and retry face authentication if it fails. Contact support if the documented retries do not resolve the problem. The Member Interface currently lists 14470 for help.
When the portal or app appears to be down
EPFO’s Member Portal has reported database consolidation, a software upgrade, phased service availability and a post-migration stabilization period. These notices show that service conditions can affect access, but they do not identify the cause of a particular login error.
Rank #4
- Check the live official notice before trying again.
- If EPFO reports a service transition or stabilization delay, wait and retry later rather than repeatedly submitting requests, especially during peak hours.
- If self-service recovery still fails, call the EPFO Helpdesk at 14470, listed on the current Member Interface.

EPFO warns members to protect their UAN and password and never share passwords. It says it does not request Aadhaar, PAN or bank details over the phone, and does not ask members to deposit money. Treat unsolicited requests for an OTP, credentials or payment as suspicious. Use the official Member Interface, UMANG and the helpdesk number listed by EPFO rather than a caller’s link or a paid account-unlocking offer.
