If your EPFO claim is delayed or rejected, first check its official status and read the exact message for that claim. Then verify the relevant details against your EPF records and follow the correction steps shown in the member portal. If the issue remains unresolved, file a grievance through EPFiGMS. A grievance response target is not the same as a claim-payment deadline.
Check the claim status and the message attached to it
Use EPFO’s Know Your Claim Status service or the claim-status option listed under For Employees. EPFO’s helpdesk guidance says to select the office where the account is maintained and enter the PF account number. Keep your claim acknowledgement or reference details available.
Read the status or rejection reason shown for your own claim. A delay alone does not identify the cause, and a rejection remedy depends on the reason and claim type. The official sources cited here do not establish a complete, current list of rejection codes or one fix that applies to every claim.
Check the details relevant to your claim
Compare identity and KYC information
Check the member and KYC details against the records used for the claim, especially if the status or rejection message points to a mismatch. EPFO’s FAQ on UAN and KYC says the name in KYC documents must match PF records. It describes a name-change request as the route for correcting a mismatch. The FAQ dates from 2020–21, so use the current member portal’s instructions to confirm the procedure.

If an employer’s approval is needed for a correction and is not forthcoming, EPFO’s FAQ advises following up with the employer or escalating through EPF grievance channels.
Follow current portal instructions before submitting again
Use the steps displayed in the official member portal to correct details or make a fresh submission where appropriate. Do not rely on old advice that says an online claim always needs a cheque-leaf image or an attested bank passbook: on 3 April 2025, the Ministry of Labour and Employment said EPFO had removed that upload requirement for online claims and removed employer approval for bank-account seeding. Requirements can vary with the claim and the portal’s current prompts; follow the instructions shown for your submission. Ministry release, 3 April 2025

Use the right route for the problem
| What you need | Route | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Find out where a claim stands | EPFO Know Your Claim Status or member services | Shows the claim status; the helpdesk guidance describes selecting the account’s office and entering the PF account number. EPFO helpdesk |
| Ask EPFO to address an unresolved issue | EPFiGMS | Registers a grievance and provides a route for escalation under EPFO’s grievance process. EPFO Citizen Charter |
A status check answers “where is it?” A grievance asks EPFO to address a problem that remains unresolved. Filing a grievance does not guarantee that a claim will be approved or processed faster.
Escalate an unresolved issue through EPFiGMS
- Open EPFiGMS and follow its current instructions to register a grievance about the claim.
- Describe the issue clearly and include the claim reference and relevant status or rejection message. Avoid including passwords or one-time passcodes.
- Save the grievance registration details so you can follow up through the system.
- If the matter is not redressed, use the escalation route described by EPFO’s grievance process.
EPFO’s Citizen Charter gives a general limit of seven working days for grievance settlement and says unresolved matters are escalated to a higher authority. That is a grievance target—not a guaranteed claim-settlement or payment deadline. The sources cited here do not establish one current claim-processing deadline that applies to every claim type and circumstance.

Do not use an old claim-processing figure as a current promise. EPFO’s 2014–15 annual report cited a general 20-day claim-settlement limit, but that is historical and does not establish a current universal deadline. The later seven-working-day figure in the Citizen Charter concerns grievances, not claim settlement. EPFO Annual Report 2014–15

EPFO’s member portal posted a notice, last updated 21 July 2026, about phased service restoration following a database and software upgrade. It warned of longer-than-usual processing during an initial two-week stabilization period. That dated notice describes the period around the upgrade; it is not evidence of an active disruption in October 2026. EPFO member portal
