How to Evaluate Nvidia Stock Using Revenue Growth, Margins, and Cash Flow

NVIDIA’s Q2 FY2027 results show rapid revenue growth, a 75.0% GAAP gross margin and higher first-half operating cash flow. Here’s how to assess those figures without confusing business performance with stock valuation.

To evaluate NVIDIA’s operating performance, examine revenue growth, margins, and operating cash flow together—and keep that analysis separate from whether the stock is attractively priced. In its quarter ended July 26, 2026, NVIDIA reported revenue of $96.221 billion, up 106% year over year, with a 75.0% GAAP gross margin. Those figures show exceptional growth and profitability at the gross-profit level; they do not, by themselves, establish that the growth will persist or that the shares are cheap.

Start with the reported period and revenue mix

NVIDIA’s latest reported quarter in the company’s August 2026 release and filing is Q2 fiscal 2027, which ended July 26, 2026. Revenue was $96.221 billion, up 106% from Q2 FY2026 and 18% from Q1 FY2027. Data Center revenue was $89.0 billion, up 117% year over year and 18% sequentially. These are company-reported results, not forecasts. NVIDIA’s August 26, 2026 earnings release and its Q2 FY2027 Form 10-Q, filed August 27, 2026 provide the underlying figures.

Growth rate alone does not show how broadly the business is expanding. NVIDIA attributed the increase to the ramp of Blackwell Ultra infrastructure and described demand from hyperscale customers and AI Clouds, Industrial, and Enterprise. Data Center accounted for nearly all reported quarterly revenue, so assess whether growth is being carried by a concentrated product and market rather than assuming every business line is growing at the same pace.

For segment comparisons, account for NVIDIA’s presentation changes: it changed its revenue-by-market-platform presentation in Q1 FY2027 and recast comparable periods, then reclassified a company from ACIE to Hyperscale in Q2. Use the recast categories when comparing periods. A single quarter’s growth rate is evidence of recent performance, not a guarantee of future growth.

Read gross margin alongside operating expenses

Gross margin is the portion of revenue left after cost of revenue, before operating expenses. NVIDIA reported a Q2 FY2027 GAAP gross margin of 75.0%, compared with 72.4% in Q2 FY2026. It reported GAAP operating income of $63.734 billion, up 124% year over year, while operating expenses rose 55% to $8.408 billion.

The useful question is not only whether gross margin is high, but how much of gross profit remains after the company funds research and development, and selling, general, and administrative costs. Follow those expenses through to operating income. Gross margin is neither net profit nor cash flow, and a strong gross margin does not eliminate the effect of rising operating costs.

Keep accounting bases consistent: compare GAAP with GAAP, or non-GAAP with non-GAAP. NVIDIA began including stock-based compensation expense in its non-GAAP measures starting in Q1 FY2027, which affects comparisons with earlier non-GAAP periods. See the company’s Q2 FY2027 results release for the reported measures and its explanation of non-GAAP reporting.

Check whether earnings are converting into operating cash

For the six months ended July 26, 2026, NVIDIA reported $74.421 billion of net cash provided by operating activities, compared with $42.779 billion in the first half of the prior fiscal year. This is a six-month figure, not cash flow for Q2 alone. NVIDIA attributed the increase to higher revenue, partly offset by increased accounts receivable associated with extended payment terms on large, multi-quarter agreements with certain investment-grade customers. That qualification matters: revenue can be recognized before cash is collected.

Assess operating cash flow alongside net income and working-capital movements, especially receivables and payment terms. Rising operating cash flow supports the picture of earnings generating cash, but the receivables change is a reason to watch collection timing rather than treat the cash-flow increase as an unqualified measure of earnings quality. The 10-Q also reported first-half cash used in investing activities of $35.124 billion and cash used in financing activities of $27.459 billion.

Do not substitute a balance-sheet cash figure for a period cash-flow figure. NVIDIA reported cash, cash equivalents, and marketable debt securities of $56.586 billion as of July 26, 2026; that is a point-in-time balance, not cash generated during the first half. Operating cash flow is also not automatically free cash flow. To calculate free cash flow, define the calculation and use the relevant capital-expenditure figure; the figures cited here do not establish that calculation.

Separate reported results from management’s outlook

In its August 26, 2026 release, NVIDIA forecast Q3 FY2027 revenue of $108.0 billion, plus or minus 2%, and GAAP and non-GAAP gross margins of 74.0%, plus or minus 50 basis points. The company said the outlook assumed no Data Center compute revenue from China. These are management’s forward-looking expectations, not Q3 results.

On its August 26, 2026 earnings call, management described supply as a bottleneck through at least the end of FY2028, anticipated memory pricing pressure, and gave a preliminary expectation for approximately 70% year-over-year revenue growth in FY2028. These projections are not established outcomes. Management’s outlook and commentary can help frame scenarios, but actual performance depends on demand, supply, execution, and other risks. The release itself cautions that statements about future growth, demand, and outlook are forward-looking and subject to risks and uncertainties.

Test the durability of growth against concentration and execution risks

NVIDIA’s filing says Q2 and first-half growth was driven by Data Center products for accelerated computing and AI solutions. It also identifies risks that can change the pace or economics of that growth, including supply constraints, inaccurate demand estimates, production delays, inventory provisions, lower yields, higher material and warranty costs, customers postponing purchases, capital constraints, and slower-than-expected adoption.

Customer concentration is another lens. One direct customer represented 16% of Q2 FY2027 revenue. For the first half, three direct customers represented 16%, 15%, and 13%, respectively. These are direct-customer disclosures; they do not identify ultimate end users, so do not infer that each percentage maps to a particular final customer or application.

The filing reported supply and capacity commitments of $279 billion as of July 26, 2026, up from $119 billion the prior quarter. A commitment is not the same as revenue already earned or cash already spent. It is relevant to execution and capital planning because NVIDIA must manage capacity and supply against demand that can change.

Keep stock valuation separate from business performance

Revenue growth, margins, and operating cash flow help assess the company’s operating performance. None tells you, by itself, whether NVIDIA stock is cheap or expensive. A valuation assessment also requires a dated share price and market capitalization, an appropriate financial measure, and explicit assumptions about future results. Strong recent growth can coexist with an unattractive share price if expectations embedded in the price are higher still; the operating figures alone cannot settle that question.

A practical review is to record the quarter and comparison period, check revenue by business mix, trace gross profit through operating expenses to operating income, compare operating cash flow with earnings and receivables, and label every forecast as management guidance. Then perform a separate valuation analysis using market data for a stated date rather than treating business quality as a stock-price verdict.
