What Is an Injective ETF? What INJ Investors Should Know

An Injective ETF could offer brokerage-based exposure to INJ, but proposed fund shares are not direct token ownership. Here is what the filings say and what remains uncertain.

An Injective ETF would let investors buy shares through a brokerage account that are designed to track INJ, Injective Network’s native digital asset. Shareholders would own fund shares—not INJ tokens directly. As of October 7, 2026, the available filings describe proposed funds, not an ETF confirmed to be trading: the SEC lists Canary Capital’s Cboe BZX listing proposal as withdrawn, while 21Shares filed a preliminary registration amendment that says its shares cannot be sold until the registration statement becomes effective.

What an Injective ETF would be

An Injective ETF is a proposed exchange-traded investment product intended to give investors exposure to INJ without requiring them to buy and manage tokens themselves. The fund or trust would hold INJ; investors would hold shares in that vehicle. A fund’s value could therefore follow INJ’s price, less applicable expenses and liabilities, but the shares are not the same as directly owning or controlling tokens on the Injective network.

The sponsor filings are preliminary issuer documents, not SEC endorsements. They describe possible structures and terms, which may change before a registration statement becomes effective.

Is there an INJ ETF yet?

As of October 7, 2026, the cited records do not establish that either proposal is a live, trading ETF. The SEC’s rulemaking page records the proposed Cboe BZX listing for the Canary Capital trust as withdrawn on March 9, 2026 (SEC rulemaking record). Separately, 21Shares filed an S-1/A on September 18, 2026. Its preliminary prospectus says the offering cannot proceed until the registration statement is effective (21Shares filing).

A filing or exchange listing proposal is not proof that shares are available to trade. Investors should verify an eventual fund’s effective registration and actual exchange listing before treating it as an available product.

How the proposed funds differ

Feature 21Shares proposal Canary Capital proposal
Proposed venue Nasdaq, according to the preliminary prospectus. Cboe BZX; the associated listing rule proposal is recorded as withdrawn by the SEC on March 9, 2026.
Stated approach Passive trust designed to track INJ, adjusted for expenses and liabilities. Trust holding INJ, seeking price exposure net of expenses, with a secondary objective of earning INJ through staking.
Benchmark FTSE Injective Index. CoinDesk Indices benchmark provider.
Staking Sponsor may stake only if it determines doing so would not create undue legal, regulatory, or tax risk. Staking rewards are described as a secondary objective in the preliminary prospectus.
Other stated details Does not use leverage or derivatives to meet its investment objective. Names BitGo Trust Company as INJ custodian.

The filings do not establish final fees, whether staking will actually be enabled, or the final operational and shareholder terms. Those details should be checked in effective documents if a product proceeds. The 21Shares prospectus says: “The Trust is a passive investment vehicle that does not seek to generate returns beyond tracking the price of INJ tokens (“INJ”), the native digital asset of the Injective Network.” This is the sponsor’s description in a preliminary filing, not an SEC approval.

How an ETF could affect INJ investors

Brokerage access

A listed fund could provide a familiar route for people who prefer brokerage accounts and do not want to set up a token wallet or transact directly on a crypto exchange. That convenience comes with a different form of ownership: fund shareholders generally hold shares, not tokens they can transfer or use on-chain.

Possible effect on token demand

If fund shares are created using INJ, demand for those shares could lead to purchases of the underlying token. That is a possible link between fund demand and INJ demand, not a forecast. Actual flows would depend on investor interest, market liquidity, fund costs, competing products, and broader crypto-market conditions. The cited filings do not show that a fund will launch, attract assets, or increase INJ’s price.

Ownership and participation

ETF shares would not automatically give an investor direct control of the trust’s tokens or the ability to participate as a tokenholder on-chain. Anyone choosing between fund shares and direct INJ ownership should consider whether brokerage convenience or direct token functionality matters more to them.

Staking and rewards

The proposals treat staking differently. 21Shares makes staking conditional on the sponsor’s assessment of legal, regulatory, and tax risks; Canary describes staking as a secondary objective. Neither description alone guarantees staking or a particular distribution of rewards to shareholders. If a product becomes effective, review its final documents for whether staking is enabled, how rewards and fees are handled, and what additional risks apply.

What to check before considering a future product

Do not compare proposed funds on their names alone. Once final documents and trading information are available, examine:

  • Status: Is the registration statement effective, and are shares actually listed and trading?
  • Costs: What is the expense ratio, and are there other fund or transaction costs?
  • Benchmark and valuation: Which index or valuation method determines the fund’s reported value?
  • Custody and operations: Who holds the INJ, and what protections and operational risks are described?
  • Staking: Is staking permitted in practice, how are rewards and fees treated, and what risks does it add?
  • Tracking and taxes: How closely has the fund tracked INJ, and what tax treatment applies to your circumstances?

Preliminary filings warn of risks that include INJ price volatility, regulatory changes, custody and operational exposures, and fund expenses. Final terms can differ from preliminary descriptions.

Dated figures in the 21Shares filing

The 21Shares S-1/A reports approximately 7.2 million INJ tokens purchased and burned through the community buyback, at an aggregate purchase price of approximately $35.1 million, as of September 1, 2026. It also reports an INJ market capitalization of approximately $488 million as of that date. These are figures stated in the filing, not independently verified live market statistics (21Shares S-1/A).
