Bitcoin Bank Review: What Regulators’ Warnings Say

Regulators have warned about multiple Bitcoin Bank-named entities. Their notices apply to specific companies, sites, jurisdictions, and dates—not automatically to every service using the name.

Bottom line: “Bitcoin Bank” is not one uniquely identifiable service, and official warnings concern different entities, websites, jurisdictions, and dates. Before trusting any offer with that name, match its exact domain and legal company to your country’s regulator records. Several regulators have warned about specific Bitcoin Bank-named operations; those findings should not be generalized to every similarly branded service.

What does “Bitcoin Bank” refer to?

The name is used in more than one regulatory notice, but those notices do not establish that all the named operations are the same company. A warning about one domain or entity is not automatically a finding about another service using similar branding.

For a useful review, identify the exact website, the legal company named in its terms or investment offer, and the country where you live. Then check the relevant regulator’s current register and warning list. The records below are specific to the entities and jurisdictions named by each authority.

What regulators have said about Bitcoin Bank

Authority and jurisdiction Entity or website identified What the notice says
Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), Malta The entity named “Bitcoin Bank” in MFSA’s warning In a warning dated June 14, 2024, MFSA said the entity was not a Maltese registered company and was not authorised by MFSA to provide financial services requiring authorisation. It described a high risk of loss and advised the public to refrain from transactions with that entity. MFSA warning
British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC), British Columbia, Canada BitcoinBank (BTCB) In a notice dated March 2, 2018, BCSC said BTCB was not registered to trade in or advise on securities or exchange contracts in British Columbia. This is a historical, province-specific notice. BCSC warning
Bank of Russia, Russia BitcoinBank, BTC Bank, Биткойн Банк Лтд, and CloudMine Ltd. The Bank of Russia list identifies signs of a financial pyramid. The entry is dated May 30, 2022; its displayed last data update is January 13, 2023. The page states information was current as of its September 14, 2026 download. Bank of Russia listing
Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV), Spain Bitcoin Bank Spain, Bitcoin Bank España, BITCOINBANKSPAIN.COM, Bitcoin Bank, and Quantum AI Platforms CNMV’s October 20, 2025 notice says the named operation lacked authorisation for specified investment and crypto-asset service-provider activities in Spain. CNMV’s warning search also contains Bitcoin Bank-related entries from 2020 and 2023. CNMV warning · CNMV warning search
Service Newfoundland and Labrador, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada Bitcoin Bank / Bitcoin-bank.io solicitation to invest in BTCB In an advisory dated March 13, 2018, the provincial authority said the entity was not registered to trade securities in Newfoundland and Labrador. It also reported that regulators determined the entity was not at its stated address and that its advertised returns were unrealistic. Service NL advisory

These notices are regulator findings about identified entities or offers, in particular places and at stated times. They do not establish the current legal identity, solvency, or authorisation status of every service using the Bitcoin Bank name.

  • NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
  • 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
  • BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.

Is Bitcoin Bank legit, a scam, or regulated?

Those questions cannot be answered reliably from the name alone. The warnings provide substantial reasons for caution about the specific operations they identify, but they are not a global determination covering every service branded “Bitcoin Bank.” Likewise, a company’s use of the word “bank” does not itself establish that it is a licensed bank.

For the entity addressed by MFSA, the regulator expressly said it was not authorised for financial services requiring MFSA authorisation and advised the public to avoid business or transactions with it. For a different entity or a current offer, verify its exact legal name and domain against the regulator responsible for your jurisdiction before relying on any claim of licensing or oversight.

How to check a specific Bitcoin Bank offer

  1. Record the identity details. Note the complete website address, the company name in the terms and conditions, any named investment or trading product, and the country the offer targets. Do not assume that a similar name means the same company.
  2. Search your regulator’s official records. Check both its authorised-firm register and warning list. Search the company name and domain, and confirm that any authorisation covers the activity being offered—not merely a similarly named firm or unrelated service.
  3. Compare the notice with the offer. Check the regulator, jurisdiction, notice date, named entity or domain, and the activity or concern described. An old notice should be treated as historical unless the regulator’s current records say otherwise.
  4. Do not use a deposit or wallet connection as a test. A transaction cannot establish that a service is authorised or safe. MFSA advises against transactions with the entity it identified.

If you already sent money or connected a wallet

  • Contact your bank, card issuer, or payment provider promptly to ask whether the payment can be stopped, disputed, or otherwise addressed. Options depend on payment method and timing.
  • Report the matter to the relevant financial regulator or law-enforcement agency in your jurisdiction, providing the domain, company name, messages, payment details, and transaction records.
  • If you connected a crypto wallet, use the wallet provider’s official guidance to review and revoke suspicious token approvals where possible. Never share a seed phrase or private key with a person or service claiming it can recover funds.
  • Be wary of anyone demanding an upfront fee to recover money or promising guaranteed recovery. A recovery offer is not evidence that the claimant is affiliated with a regulator, bank, or the original platform.
