CoreWeave’s $640 million “headache” is its net interest expense for the second quarter of 2026—not a Forge price tag or one-off charge. The company is expanding beyond GPU cloud capacity with Forge, software for AI development workflows, and its CEO says the platform should improve margins. But CoreWeave has not disclosed Forge revenue or quantified that expected benefit, so it is too early to call the product a solution to the interest bill.
What is CoreWeave’s $640 million headache?
CoreWeave reported $640 million in net interest expense for the three months ended June 30, 2026, up from $267 million in the same quarter of 2025. It also reported a $626 million GAAP net loss, compared with a $290 million loss a year earlier. These are quarterly figures, not annual totals. CoreWeave’s second-quarter results provide the company’s figures.
At the same time, revenue more than doubled year over year, reaching $2.575 billion in Q2 2026 from $1.212 billion in Q2 2025. Rapid growth has not yet translated into a GAAP profit: CoreWeave’s release reported a $49 million operating loss for the quarter. The company’s CEO described the quarter as an inflection point for operating leverage, but that characterization should be distinguished from the reported GAAP results.
What is CoreWeave Forge?
Forge is CoreWeave’s move from selling AI computing infrastructure alone toward providing software that connects more of the AI development process. The company describes it as connecting the AI development loop. CoreWeave announced Forge at its Fully Connected conference on Sept. 30, 2026. The company’s Forge announcement outlines its product positioning.

The strategic idea is to offer customers tools around the compute they already need: not just access to GPU infrastructure, but support for AI development workflows. That broadens CoreWeave’s product proposition and could create another source of revenue. It does not, by itself, establish that customers have adopted Forge at scale or that it has begun producing meaningful income.
Can Forge help pay CoreWeave’s interest bill?
Potentially, if the software attracts customers and adds revenue at favorable margins. CEO Michael Intrator told TheStreet, “It’s going to be accretive to margins.” TheStreet’s Oct. 6, 2026 report said he did not quantify Forge’s expected contribution. CoreWeave has not announced a Forge revenue figure, margin uplift, customer count, or sales target in the reporting available. TheStreet’s report covers the comment and the lack of a quantified estimate.

Margin improvement and interest expense are also different measures. Better margins could strengthen the economics of CoreWeave’s business, but they do not automatically reduce the amount of interest due. Forge would need to generate real customer demand and contribute cash or earnings at a scale that matters against the company’s financing costs. Until the company reports adoption and financial results for the platform, Forge is a prospective margin opportunity—not a demonstrated fix for the $640 million quarterly expense.

CoreWeave’s business is expanding rapidly, but fulfilling customer demand requires infrastructure and financing. Its cash-flow statement reported $14.117 billion in purchases of property and equipment for the six months ended June 30, 2026, compared with $3.860 billion in the same period of 2025. The line includes capitalized internal-use software, so it should not be read as hardware-only spending. The figures are in CoreWeave’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026.

Demand indicators are substantial, but they need careful interpretation. CoreWeave said active power reached 1.5 GW after nearly 500 MW of expansion, with total contracted power of approximately 3.7 GW. Its reported revenue backlog was approximately $104 billion as of June 30, 2026; the company said that figure excluded more than $25 billion of net new customer commitments added early in Q3. Backlog is not revenue already earned: it is subject to delivery and service-availability requirements.
Fortune reported Intrator’s characterization that “Our near-term capacity remains effectively sold out.” That is management’s description of near-term capacity, not a promise that any particular customer can receive service immediately. Active power, contracted power, and available capacity at a specific site or for a particular customer are not interchangeable measures. Fortune’s coverage reported the comment and the company’s growth and backlog.

What to watch next
- Forge monetization: Look for disclosed customer adoption, revenue, or a sales target rather than relying solely on management’s margin expectation.
- GAAP results alongside adjusted metrics: CoreWeave presents non-GAAP measures separately and says they supplement, rather than replace, GAAP measures. Track operating results and net income or loss as well as any adjusted figures.
- Delivery against backlog: Compare later reported revenue with commitments, while remembering that backlog depends on delivery and service availability.
- Capital needs and financing costs: Track infrastructure investment and interest expense together. A larger product portfolio does not remove the need to finance deployments or prove that new offerings will cover their costs.
