HackerNoon’s October 12, 2024 announcement, titled “Startups of the Year 2024: 377 Startups Nominated in the Blockchain Industry,” names 30 blockchain startups in its article body—not 377. The page does not explain the mismatch, so 377 should not be treated as a verified count of the listed nominees.

What the 2024 announcement says

HackerNoon described Startups of the Year 2024 as an annual, community-driven startup award. Its October 12, 2024 blockchain announcement says the list showcases 30 startups, then names 30. The headline gives a different figure—377—and the article does not say whether that number refers to a larger pool or is an error. The page therefore supports a count of 30 names in the published list, while the meaning of 377 remains unresolved.

The announcement also cited event-wide participation expectations of more than 150,000 entities across 4,200-plus cities, six continents, and more than 100 industries. Those figures describe the event overall, not the number of blockchain nominees in this article. It also said millions of votes had been cast in previous years, without giving a precise total or date range.

The 30 startups named in the article

These are the names in the order shown in HackerNoon’s announcement:

How nominations and voting were scheduled

The announcement said nominations opened October 1, 2024, and would remain open through October 31. It said people could vote once per day per award through March 31, 2025, with winners to be announced in April 2025 after evaluation by the HackerNoon team. These are the dates stated for the 2024 event; they are historical, not current opportunities to nominate or vote.

Benefits HackerNoon described

HackerNoon’s announcement said nominees would receive free interviews relevant to their region and industry, curated startup-friendly packages, and a free Evergreen Tech Company News page. It described a free HackerNoon interview and an Evergreen Tech Company News page as benefits for winners. These are benefits as stated in the announcement, not independently verified guarantees.

David Smooke, identified in the article as HackerNoon’s Founder and CEO, said: “We are thrilled to recognize the top startups in the Blockchain industry and celebrate their achievements,” and, “Starting and sustaining a company is difficult. We’re honored to showcase their work and impact.”

How to read the 377 figure

The article’s headline and body make different claims about scale. The body’s statement and its 30-item list agree with one another; the headline’s 377 figure is not explained on the page. The announcement also provides no separate breakdown that connects the event-wide participation estimates to the blockchain list. It is therefore most accurate to describe this as a 30-name list published under a headline claiming 377 nominations, with the discrepancy unresolved.
