Greek police arrested eight people in Attica on 6 October 2026 in an investigation into an alleged scheme involving unpaid social security contributions and taxes, To Vima reported. The newspaper estimated losses to e-EFKA, Greece’s social security institution, at more than €1.5 million and the total cost to the state, including unpaid taxes, at about €5 million. Those figures and the alleged conduct have not been independently confirmed in the available reporting.

What police are investigating

To Vima reported that the police Financial Crime Unit carried out the operation in Attica on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, arresting eight people. Police reportedly believe the alleged scheme had been operating since 2021.

According to the report, companies were allegedly registered in other people’s names, used to conduct business, and then shut down before required social security contributions were paid. Some of the companies reportedly issued invoices to LAOS. These are reported investigative allegations, not findings of guilt.

Why the reported cost is about €5 million

The two estimates refer to different scopes. To Vima put estimated losses to e-EFKA at more than €1.5 million. Its broader estimate of about €5 million covers the total cost to the state, including unpaid taxes. The article does not provide an itemized calculation or cite an underlying government statement, so the figures should be understood as estimates attributed to the newspaper, not independently verified totals.

Who was reported arrested

To Vima reported that LAOS leader and television presenter Filippos Kampouris and his wife were among the eight people arrested. Investigators reportedly suspect the couple had a leading role in the alleged scheme. Arrest and suspicion do not establish guilt; the report does not describe a court finding.

What is known about the investigation’s status

To Vima’s 6 October report said: “The police operation and investigation are ongoing.” The article did not include an official police or e-EFKA statement, court documents, or responses from the people named. Its account is therefore limited to that report, and the status may have changed since publication.
