A sound comparison needs current financial results, valuation and confirmation that each security is available to you.
What Tesla’s Q3 2026 delivery figure does—and does not—show
Tesla reported 486,532 vehicle deliveries for the quarter ended September 30, 2026: 478,237 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles and 8,295 other models. That was 10,567 fewer vehicles than the 497,099 it reported for Q3 2025, a decline of about 2.1% year over year. Tesla described the Q3 2025 total as a record. The Q3 2026 release also reported 13.7 gigawatt-hours of energy-storage deployments.
Those figures describe deliveries and deployments, not quarterly profitability. Tesla said those are only two measures of financial performance and should not be relied on as indicators of quarterly financial results; results can also depend on average selling prices, costs, foreign exchange and other factors. Its October 2, 2026 release deferred net income and cash-flow information to the financial results scheduled for October 21, after the October 7 information date used here. No Q3 2026 profit, margin or cash-flow conclusion follows from deliveries alone.
Tesla’s latest annual financial baseline
Tesla’s fiscal-year 2025 Form 10-K, filed January 28, 2026, provides a fuller baseline than the delivery release. For FY2025, the company reported approximately 1.64 million consumer vehicle deliveries, $94.83 billion in revenue and $3.79 billion in net income attributable to common stockholders. At December 31, 2025, it reported $44.06 billion in cash, cash equivalents and investments.

The same filing said management expected capital expenditures to exceed $20 billion in 2026, driven by AI initiatives, compute infrastructure and data centers, manufacturing and research-and-development capacity, and company-operated AI-enabled assets. This was an expectation stated in the 2025 filing—not a reported 2026 result. Spending at that scale makes execution, returns on investment and future cash generation important questions alongside vehicle sales.
What is known about SpaceX shares
On June 4, 2026, SpaceX announced a proposed initial public offering of 555,555,555 Class A shares at an expected price of $135 per share, with a proposed listing under the symbol “SPCX.” The announcement said the registration statement had not yet become effective at that time and stated that the securities could not be sold, nor offers to buy accepted, before it became effective.

Those were proposed terms on the announcement date. They do not establish whether the registration statement later became effective, whether the offering closed, whether shares began trading, or what the current ticker or market price is. The announcement also described different offering and eligibility restrictions across geographies; access should not be assumed for investors in every country. Confirm current SEC filings, the final prospectus and local rules before treating SpaceX shares as investable or relying on any offer terms.
How to compare the companies as investments
Company performance and investment value are related but different questions. A company can grow while its shares are expensive, or face operating challenges while its share price already reflects low expectations. Comparing Tesla’s delivery total with SpaceX’s proposed IPO price cannot resolve either question.

Before comparing prices or making a decision, use financial information from the same period where possible, then assess valuation against realistic expectations. Also examine capital needs, operating and execution risks, share-class rights, liquidity, disclosure quality and whether you can legally and practically access each security. If current filings and trading information are unavailable for one company, the comparison is incomplete rather than a tie or a reason to infer a winner.

The available evidence does not establish that Tesla is a better investment than SpaceX, or the reverse. Tesla’s latest reported quarterly delivery count was lower year over year, but its Q3 financial results had not yet been released by the date used here. SpaceX’s announcement recorded a proposed IPO, but does not establish the offering’s later outcome or current trading status. A relative investment judgment requires those missing facts and a valuation comparison based on confirmed, current information.
