The president of Staten Island-based JT Homesavers was reported arraigned on October 5, 2026, on 46 charges in an alleged foreclosure-relief scam. The accusations are unproven, and Lauren Taliento denied wrongdoing, according to ABC7 New York.

What happened in the JT Homesavers case?

ABC7 New York reported that Lauren Taliento, 51, president of JT Homesavers, was arraigned Monday, October 5, 2026, on 46 charges, including third-degree grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. The report describes allegations involving promises to help homeowners refinance or lower mortgage payments.

Being charged is not proof of guilt. Taliento denied the accusations and blamed banks for the foreclosures, ABC7 reported.

What did the homeowners tell ABC7?

Miguel Mora’s account

ABC7 reported that Miguel Mora, a 60-year-old retired subway conductor from Plainfield, New Jersey, contacted Taliento and JT Homesavers in 2024 because he was struggling with mortgage payments and believed the company could reduce them. Mora told the outlet that he paid $8,200 in back mortgage payments and more than $14,000 in checks and cash.

Mora said that about 20 months later, his bank told him it had no documentation of the plan. He did not lose his home, but told ABC7 that his credit score fell. These are Mora’s reported claims, not findings established in court.

Other homeowners’ allegations

ABC7 said three Staten Island women attended the arraignment and said Taliento was responsible for their home foreclosures. One, Fabiana Polizzi, described trying to obtain a loan modification and said she lost her home. These accounts are allegations; the report does not establish that Taliento caused the losses.

What is known about the case’s status?

ABC7 reported that Taliento was released under supervision, was ordered to stay away from the named victim, and was asked to surrender a passport. She said she did not have one. The report said she was due back in court in November. The docket and any subsequent status have not been independently verified here, so this account does not establish later developments.

ABC7 quoted Taliento as saying: “I truly cared about these people. I was available to them 24/7. I am in absolute shock about what has gone on.”

How can homeowners recognize foreclosure-relief scams?

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) warns homeowners to be cautious if a company or individual:

  • Demands an upfront fee for foreclosure-relief services.
  • Tells the homeowner to stop paying the mortgage.
  • Directs payments to someone other than the mortgage lender or servicer.
  • Pressures the homeowner to sign documents they do not understand.
  • Asks the homeowner to transfer the property title.
  • Guarantees it can change mortgage terms or prevent foreclosure.

A warning sign is a reason to stop and seek advice; on its own, it does not prove that a particular person committed a crime.

Where can you get help if you are behind on your mortgage?

Contact the mortgage servicer

If you are behind or worried about missing a payment, contact your mortgage servicer promptly. Its phone number is generally on your monthly statement or its website. The servicer can discuss your account and available loss-mitigation options.

Speak with a HUD-approved housing counselor

The CFPB recommends contacting a HUD-approved housing counseling agency for free assistance. A counselor can help you understand possible options and work with your servicer. The CFPB’s guidance, last reviewed August 28, 2026, says: “You should also contact a HUD-approved housing counseling agency to get free, expert assistance on avoiding foreclosure.” See the CFPB’s foreclosure guidance.

Consult an attorney when legal action is close

The CFPB advises consulting an attorney if foreclosure is imminent or you have been served legal papers. Do not ignore court documents or deadlines while seeking help.

A separate HUD case is not evidence in the JT Homesavers matter

In a separate June 13, 2023, administrative charge, the Department of Housing and Urban Development alleged that Homeowner Assistance Services of New York and associated people and entities targeted seven homeowners with fraudulent mortgage and foreclosure-prevention assistance, including documents that transferred property titles. That matter is distinct from the allegations against Taliento and JT Homesavers and should not be treated as evidence in this case. HUD’s 2023 announcement.
