The decision depends on whether future growth and profits can meet the expectations built into the share price. NVIDIA’s latest reported results and near-term outlook are strong; its filings also show real product-transition and long-term commitment risks. The sources cited here do not establish a current share price or valuation multiple, so they cannot support a factual verdict that the stock is cheap, expensive, or fairly valued.
What NVIDIA’s latest results show
For the quarter ended July 26, 2026, NVIDIA reported revenue of $96.221 billion, up 106% from the year-earlier quarter and 18% from the preceding quarter. GAAP gross margin was 75.0%, GAAP operating income was $63.734 billion, net income was $59.688 billion, and diluted GAAP earnings per share (EPS) was $2.46. The company also reported non-GAAP diluted EPS of $2.22; that is a separate measure and should not be confused with GAAP EPS. These are historical results, not a forecast. NVIDIA’s Q2 FY2027 results release provides the figures.
Management forecast Q3 FY2027 revenue of $108.0 billion, plus or minus 2%, and GAAP and non-GAAP gross margins of 74.0%, plus or minus 50 basis points. The revenue outlook assumes no Data Center compute revenue from China. These are management expectations, not realized results; actual performance may differ.
The company’s CEO, Jensen Huang, described the moment in the results release this way: “AI has reached its inflection point. It’s doing useful work. Its tokens are productive and profitable. Now, compute is revenue.” That is management’s view of the market, not independent evidence that customers’ AI deployments will generate attractive returns.

The bullish case and the caution case
The same operating facts can support different investment conclusions. The question is not simply whether NVIDIA is growing, but what must happen next for the price you pay to make sense.
| Question | Bullish reading | Cautious reading |
|---|---|---|
| Can growth continue? | Recent revenue growth and management’s next-quarter outlook indicate strong demand and a sizable near-term business. | The cited results establish recent growth, not how long it will last or whether it will exceed what investors already expect. |
| Can margins hold through product changes? | Q2 FY2027 GAAP gross margin was 75.0%. | NVIDIA’s FY2026 filing describes margin pressure during the transition from Hopper HGX systems to Blackwell full-scale data-center solutions, as well as a $4.5 billion charge tied to H20 excess inventory and purchase obligations. |
| Will customers sustain spending? | Current demand is reflected in the company’s reported results and outlook. | NVIDIA says customers and partners need to generate revenue and sustain investment in computing infrastructure; a shortfall could affect demand and leave the company with hard-to-reduce commitments. |
| Do buybacks make the stock a bargain? | Repurchases can return capital and may reduce the share count, potentially benefiting per-share measures. | An authorization is not proof of undervaluation, a guaranteed price floor, or evidence that all authorized shares have been repurchased. |
The margin figures and transition-related charge are described in NVIDIA’s Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended January 25, 2026. The company reported that FY2026 operating expenses rose 41% year over year, associated with higher compensation and benefits as well as compute and infrastructure costs. The filing gives context for cost pressures; it does not determine what future margins will be.

Why commitments and customer economics matter
In its Form 10-Q for the quarter ended July 26, 2026, NVIDIA describes substantial multiyear payments related to securing supply and capacity, cloud services, and data-center capacity. If demand or the company’s plans change, it may be unable to reduce those commitments. The company also flags the importance of customers and partners generating revenue and continuing to invest in computing infrastructure. NVIDIA’s Q2 FY2027 Form 10-Q discusses these commitments and risks.
For an investor, that means strong sales growth and future profitability are related but distinct questions. A business can have substantial demand while also accepting costs and obligations based on expectations about future demand. Watch whether customer spending persists and whether product transitions convert into sales without materially undermining margins.

How to decide whether the price is worth paying
A high share price by itself does not establish that a stock is overvalued, just as a fast-growing business is not automatically a bargain. Valuation depends on the price relative to future earnings or cash flow, and on the assumptions used for those future results. The materials cited here do not establish a current market price, market capitalization, enterprise value, analyst consensus, or valuation multiple. Without a dated price and an explicit forecast, a numerical valuation judgment would be unsupported.
- Start with a dated quote. Record the share price and date you are evaluating. Pair it with the appropriate share count and financial period before calculating market capitalization or a per-share multiple.
- Choose a measure that fits your question. A forward earnings or cash-flow multiple can help frame what the market is asking the business to deliver. State whether the earnings or cash-flow figure is historical or forecast, and whose forecast it is.
- Test more than one growth path. Compare a scenario in which demand and margins remain strong with one in which growth slows, costs rise, or product transitions weigh on margins. Ask what the valuation implies in each case rather than assuming the latest growth rate will continue unchanged.
- Track execution evidence. Compare realized results with management’s outlook and assess margins, inventory exposure, operating costs, and customers’ ability to keep investing. A forecast is not a substitute for subsequent reported results.
- Fit the position to your finances. Consider how much of your portfolio depends on one company and whether a sharp decline would disrupt your goals or near-term cash needs. A sound company can still be a poor fit at a price or position size that leaves too little room for uncertainty.
What the buyback does—and does not—tell you
The Associated Press reported on September 28, 2026, that NVIDIA’s board authorized an additional $150 billion in share repurchases, bringing the announced program to $235 billion. The report said the company expected execution through the fiscal year ending January 30, 2028. These are authorization and reported plans, not a statement that the full amount has already been spent. The Associated Press report also described growing skepticism about whether AI investment will justify the sums being spent; that is a debate about future returns, not proof of what those returns will be.

Repurchases can affect per-share arithmetic when shares are actually bought back, but the authorization alone says neither what price the company will pay nor whether that price is attractive. Treat capital returns as one factor in the case, not as a valuation test.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. So, is NVIDIA stock a buy at the high?
The evidence supports a conditional answer. NVIDIA reported exceptionally strong recent growth and issued a strong near-term revenue outlook, while also disclosing margin-transition costs, substantial commitments, and risks tied to customers’ continued investment. Whether buying makes sense at a particular “high” turns on the current price and on whether future results can meet the expectations embedded in that price. Because no dated quote or valuation multiple is established here, investors should calculate that comparison before treating the stock as either a bargain or a poor value.
