Paramount Skydance completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on October 6, 2026, but HBO Max and Paramount+ had not merged into one app immediately after the deal closed. Skydance says the services will unify over time; no launch date, replacement-plan price, or subscriber migration policy has been announced in the cited reports. That means there is no confirmed price increase—or saving—for subscribers to plan around yet.
What changed—and what has not
The acquisition puts Warner Bros. film and television assets under Paramount Skydance ownership. The Associated Press reported the takeover at $81 billion before billions in debt, or nearly $111 billion including debt. Those are deal-value figures, not estimates of what customers will pay for streaming.
Immediately after closing, HBO Max and Paramount+ still looked as they had the day before, AP reported. Skydance said the services would unify into a single service “over time,” but the announcement did not give a timetable or explain whether either app will remain available during a transition. Will subscribers pay more or less?
There is no announced consumer price effect in the cited company and AP reports: no new combined price, bundle price, effective date, or automatic-migration policy. A unified service could eventually change what subscribers pay, but it is not possible to say from these announcements whether an individual bill will rise, fall, or stay the same.

How large are the services in the U.S. market?
AP reported on October 6, 2026, that JustWatch estimated Paramount+ and HBO Max together accounted for about 14% of the U.S. streaming market. In the same comparison, Amazon Prime was at 17% and Netflix at 19%. What to check before changing your subscriptions
There is no need to cancel either service solely because the companies plan to unify them. Until specific terms appear, use your current account details to make decisions rather than assuming a new price or migration date.
- Check the plan name and monthly charge on each account.
- Note each renewal date and whether payment is billed directly or through another provider.
- When replacement plans are announced, compare monthly price, ad-supported or ad-free viewing, included catalog and live or sports content, simultaneous streams, downloads, and the effective date in your country.
- Look for explicit instructions about whether existing subscribers move automatically, need to choose a plan, or can keep a current subscription.
What the deal may mean for films
Paramount Skydance’s ownership now includes Warner Bros. film and television assets, but the cited announcements do not establish how the deal will affect theatrical release schedules, the length of theater-exclusive windows, or when and where particular films will stream. Those decisions should be treated as unresolved until the companies announce policies or provide details for individual titles.
