WBT reported that at least three people had been interviewed and that the inquiry centered in part on possible misuse of federal funds. Why has district leadership been in the news?

Axios Charlotte reported that the school board voted 5–4 on September 22, 2026, to terminate Superintendent Crystal Hill for convenience; the board did not provide a specific performance or misconduct reason, according to Axios. WFAE also reported that multiple senior administrators had announced plans to retire or resign by year-end.
