Axis Bank’s displayed domestic FD rates depend on tenure, deposit amount and customer category, and the bank can change them without notice. A callable FD closed early may earn less than its contracted rate; FD interest is taxable, while TDS is only tax withheld in advance. The rules differ for regular deposits, Fixed Deposit Plus and Tax Saver FD.

Axis Bank domestic FD rate examples

Axis Bank’s official rate page, reviewed on 7 October 2026, highlights the following rates for domestic deposits below ₹3 crore. They are examples for the stated tenures, not a complete rate schedule or a promise of the rate available for every deposit or booking date.

Highlighted tenure General customer Senior citizen
1 year to 1 year 10 days 6.25% p.a. 6.75% p.a.
18 months to less than 2 years 6.50% p.a. 7.00% p.a.

The rate page notes that rates may change without prior notice and shows different rate bands for larger deposits. It does not expose a reliable effective-date label for the full schedule. Check the rate shown for your exact amount, tenure and customer category when booking; Axis also advises clearing browser history or cookies if the latest chart is not displaying.

The quoted rate alone does not determine the amount you receive: payout or reinvestment choice and tax treatment also matter. Axis describes monthly and quarterly interest payouts and a single payout at maturity; check the deposit terms for the available choice and applicable rate.

What happens if you close a regular FD early?

For rupee term deposits below ₹5 crore opened or renewed on or after 1 May 2014, Axis Bank’s general published terms say the premature-closure rate is one percentage point below the card rate applicable on the deposit date, for the period the money was actually held. This is an interest-rate adjustment, not a flat fee charged against the principal.

  • Closed within seven days of booking: no interest is payable under the stated general terms.
  • Closed after seven days and within fourteen days: interest is paid at the rate applicable for the period held.
  • Closed after that period: the stated one-percentage-point reduction applies to the applicable card rate for the time held, subject to the deposit’s terms.

These are general terms for the specified deposit category and booking dates. The exact result depends on the deposit receipt and applicable product terms, so check those before closing.

Partial withdrawals

For eligible deposits below ₹5 crore opened or renewed on or after 15 December 2017, the first partial withdrawal of up to 25% of the original principal does not attract the premature-closure penalty rate. A later partial withdrawal is subject to the penalty rate. If the first withdrawal exceeds 25% of the original principal, the penalty rate applies to the entire withdrawal amount. The published terms include exclusions and separate treatment for larger deposits; confirm the rules for the specific FD before requesting a withdrawal.

Large deposits and non-callable products

Axis Bank says it may, at its discretion, disallow premature withdrawal of deposits of ₹5 crore and above held by entities other than individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs). Domestic Fixed Deposit Plus is explicitly non-callable, so its terms do not permit early withdrawal. Do not apply the regular callable-FD rules to Fixed Deposit Plus.

Tax Saver FD: five-year lock-in and conditional deduction

Axis Bank describes its Tax Saver FD as having a five-year lock-in. Premature withdrawal is generally not permitted; the bank’s FAQ identifies the account holder’s death as an exception where closure may be possible through the bank. The deposit cannot be pledged as security.

Axis states that eligible investment of up to ₹1.5 lakh may qualify for a deduction under Section 123 read with Schedule XV of the Income-tax Act, 2025. That is a product-level statement of the limit, not a guarantee that every depositor or tax regime qualifies. Whether you can claim it depends on statutory conditions and your circumstances; confirm your eligibility before investing.

FD interest tax and TDS in FY 2026–27

Axis Bank states that FD interest is taxable. It says interest is accounted for annually on an accrual or receipt basis, depending on the taxpayer’s accounting method. For income earned during FY 2026–27, the Income Tax Department says the governing law is the Income-tax Act, 2025.

Tax deducted at source (TDS) is withholding, not the final tax on your interest. Axis Bank says it projects and aggregates interest across a customer’s fixed deposits for the financial year when calculating TDS, and publishes these thresholds:

Customer category Axis Bank stated TDS threshold
Other customers ₹50,000
Senior citizens ₹1,00,000

Interest can still be taxable even if it is below the applicable TDS threshold and no tax is withheld. Do not treat the threshold as a tax-free allowance or as a calculation of your final tax due.

Axis Bank’s terms describe Form 121 under Section 393(6) as a declaration available to eligible Indian tax residents seeking non-deduction of TDS. Eligibility conditions apply, and submitting the form does not make otherwise taxable FD interest exempt. The Income Tax Department also says that payment or credit events on or before 31 March 2026 remain subject to the Income-tax Act, 1961 for TDS purposes, even if the withheld tax is deposited later.

What to check before booking or withdrawing

  • For a new FD, verify the live rate for your deposit amount, tenure and customer category at booking; the examples above are not a full rate chart.
  • Check whether the product is callable, the opening or renewal date, the contracted amount and the deposit receipt terms before planning an early or partial withdrawal.
  • For a Tax Saver FD, consider whether the five-year lock-in fits your access needs and verify deduction eligibility for your own tax circumstances.
  • For tax planning, distinguish taxable interest from TDS withheld and use the applicable FY rules for the date the interest is earned, paid or credited.
