Re:

Is Saurabh Mukherjea’s Marcellus Mutual Fund Business Recovering?

Available figures do not establish whether Marcellus’s mutual-fund business is recovering. SEBI’s reported redemptions cover the industry, not the firm.

Whether Marcellus’s mutual fund business is recovering cannot be established from the available company-specific figures: no dated Marcellus mutual-fund AUM, redemption, or performance data is verified here. The industry-wide redemption totals reported by SEBI do not show how Marcellus’s own funds are doing.

What the available figures do—and do not—show

SEBI reported aggregate mutual-fund repurchases and redemptions of ₹67,65,983.64 crore and net inflows of ₹4,82,689.04 crore for April 1 through August 31, 2026. These are totals for the Indian mutual-fund industry across private- and public-sector funds, not Marcellus-specific flows. They cannot establish whether investors are redeeming from Marcellus schemes or whether its business is recovering. SEBI’s mutual-fund status report for April–August 2026 provides the industry context.

To answer the recovery question, readers need dated Marcellus scheme-level information: assets under management (AUM), net flows or redemptions, and investment performance over comparable periods. None of those company-specific figures is verified in the available sources, so a recovery claim would be premature.

Marcellus’s mutual funds are not its other services

Marcellus identifies Saurabh Mukherjea as its Founder and Chief Investment Officer. Its official profile says he was CEO of Ambit Capital before setting up Marcellus and helped establish the Association of Portfolio Managers in India. Marcellus’s profile of Mukherjea establishes his role, but it is not evidence of mutual-fund performance or flows.

#1 Best Overall

The firm’s website lists portfolio-management services, asset-allocation services, portfolio advisory services, and corporate and regulatory disclosures. These are distinct offerings; figures or claims about one should not be treated as evidence about another. Marcellus’s official website lists these services.

What would demonstrate a recovery?

A meaningful assessment would require official, dated figures for the specific mutual-fund schemes in question, compared with the right reference points:

  • Flows: scheme-level redemptions and net flows over time, rather than industry-wide totals.
  • Assets: AUM figures for matching dates, with enough context to distinguish investor flows from changes in portfolio value.
  • Performance: returns for the relevant schemes over matching periods, measured against their stated benchmarks and net of fees where applicable.
  • Like-for-like vehicle: mutual-fund schemes compared with mutual-fund benchmarks—not with Marcellus PMS or advisory offerings.

Until those disclosures are available, the headline’s “seeks redemption” framing should be read as an unverified characterization, not as a demonstrated turnaround.
