Why NKE, NIO and APP Stocks Fell to 52-Week Lows in the Week Ended October 2, 2026

NKE, NIO and APP fell for distinct reasons in the week ended October 2, 2026: Nike’s outlook, concerns surrounding NIO’s market and cash needs, and a reported AppLovin legal setback.

NKE, NIO and APP fell for different reasons during the U.S. trading week ended Friday, October 2, 2026: Nike’s fiscal 2027 outlook disappointed investors, NIO faced reported concerns about China’s EV price competition and cash needs, and AppLovin encountered a reported court setback in its dispute with Unity. Those are distinct catalysts—not evidence of one event driving all three stocks. A 52-week low describes a stock’s recent trading range; it does not establish that the shares are undervalued.

What weighed on each stock?

Stock Reported catalyst What the evidence establishes
NKE (Nike) Fiscal 2027 outlook Nike reported lower quarterly revenue and forecast a high-single-digit revenue decline for fiscal 2027. Kiplinger said its full-year earnings outlook fell short of analyst expectations.
NIO China EV competition and cash-burn concerns Contemporaneous coverage cited these investor concerns. NIO’s latest company results located here, for Q2 2026, showed improved vehicle margin and higher vehicle sales year over year.
APP (AppLovin) Reported legal setback involving Unity An October 4 report said a federal judge in San Francisco rejected AppLovin’s request for temporary court protections against Unity Software.

Why did Nike stock fall?

Nike’s fiscal first-quarter results for fiscal 2027 were mixed, but the forward outlook was the more prominent concern in contemporaneous coverage. Nike reported revenue of $11.2 billion, down 4% year over year on a reported basis and 5% on a currency-neutral basis. NIKE Brand revenue also declined 4%. Greater China and EMEA were down, partly offset by growth in North America. Nike’s October 1, 2026 results release provides the company’s figures.

There were positive elements in the quarter: gross margin rose 60 basis points to 42.8%, and diluted earnings per share were $0.48. But Nike expected fiscal 2027 revenue to decline at a high-single-digit rate and forecast adjusted diluted EPS of $1.15 to $1.35. Kiplinger reported that Nike was the Dow’s worst-performing stock on October 2 after the results, and characterized the full-year earnings outlook as below analyst expectations. The outlook and market commentary help explain the reaction; the earnings release itself establishes Nike’s reported results and forecast, not what any individual investor expected.

Nike also said it was repositioning NIKE Sportswear, Jordan Brand and Greater China, and announced its Pace operating-model transformation. CEO Elliott Hill said the company’s “Sport Offense” was driving progress in its performance business and that Pace was intended to help accelerate and scale that momentum. These initiatives describe Nike’s response, but do not change the near-term outlook it gave investors.

Why did NIO stock fall?

Contemporaneous coverage linked pressure on NIO to concerns about China’s electric-vehicle price competition and the company’s cash burn. These are reported investor concerns, not a company-confirmed explanation for NIO reaching a 52-week low in a particular session. The available evidence does not establish a single cause for the stock’s weekly move.

NIO’s Q2 2026 company release offers useful operating context: vehicle sales increased 80.1% year over year, while vehicle margin was 18.5%, up from 10.3% in Q2 2025. Those figures complicate a simple account that the quarter itself showed deteriorating vehicle margins. They do not, by themselves, resolve investor questions about competitive pricing, future cash requirements or the company’s prospects. NIO’s investor news and releases is the company source for its reported results.

Rank #2

Why did AppLovin stock fall?

An October 4 report said AppLovin shares reached a reported 52-week low of $266.84 after a federal judge in San Francisco rejected the company’s request for temporary court protections against Unity Software. The report presented that legal development as a catalyst investors weighed. The available account does not establish additional details about the court’s reasoning or proceedings, so the ruling should not be read more broadly than that report describes it. The contemporaneous report is the source for the reported low and the legal explanation.

What a 52-week low does—and does not—tell investors

A 52-week low is a market-price reference point: it indicates that a stock traded at its lowest level within the preceding year. It is not a measure of intrinsic value, proof that a business is deteriorating, or a signal that a rebound is imminent. In this case, the stocks faced different questions: Nike’s earnings outlook and regional performance, NIO’s competitive and cash needs, and AppLovin’s litigation uncertainty. Those risks are not directly comparable, and the reported catalysts do not establish that any stock is a bargain or a sell.
