About half of iTrustCapital’s clients are buying Bitcoin, CEO Kevin Maloney said in an interview description published by Bitcoin Magazine on October 5, 2026. The figure is an attributed account of activity on one platform—not an independently verified statistic or evidence of demand across the wider Bitcoin or retirement-investing market.

What the interview listing reports

Bitcoin Magazine’s October 5, 2026, interview listing says Maloney reported that about $1 billion was put to work on iTrustCapital’s platform “last quarter,” including a couple hundred million dollars from clients’ cash positions. The listing does not define “put to work,” specify the exact period covered by “last quarter,” or provide a methodology for those amounts.

The same description says iTrustCapital had more than 100,000 clients and frames the interview around Maloney’s report that about 50% of them are buying Bitcoin. These are figures attributed to Maloney through the publication’s description; the listing does not independently validate them or explain how clients or Bitcoin purchases were counted. What the 50% figure does—and does not—show

“About 50%” describes the share of iTrustCapital clients that Maloney says are buying Bitcoin. The accessible description does not say whether that means current holders, clients who made a purchase during a particular period, or another measure. It also gives no measurement window. The figure therefore should not be read as a rate for all iTrustCapital account holders over a defined period, much less as a statistic for retirement investors generally.

Bitkey Bitcoin Hardware Wallet, No Screen - Self-Custody, No Seed Phrase
  • BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
  • SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
  • NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
  • 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
  • BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.

The listing also uses “chasing candles” to characterize behavior Maloney says he is not seeing. Because the description does not supply a full, verifiable sentence from him, that phrase should not be expanded into a direct quotation or treated as a precise measure of investor behavior.

Why the $1.3 billion headline figure remains unclear

The interview title includes $1.3 billion, but the accessible description does not explain what that number measures. It cannot be identified from the listing as assets under management, client assets, platform deposits, company valuation, or any other specific category. The description’s separate reference to about $1 billion put to work last quarter does not establish what the $1.3 billion represents.

How to read the retirement-allocation discussion

The listing’s chapter summary mentions a 5–15% retirement-investor allocation range in the context of the interview. It does not cite a separate dataset or study establishing that range as typical, appropriate, or advisable. Treat it as a topic discussed in the interview, not as a general benchmark or personal-finance recommendation.

What can be concluded

The listing presents Maloney’s account of activity at iTrustCapital: about half of its clients buying Bitcoin, more than 100,000 clients, and about $1 billion put to work on the platform in the prior quarter, including a couple hundred million dollars from client cash positions. Those claims may indicate what the CEO says is happening on his platform, but the available description does not provide independent platform data, definitions, or enough detail to establish a broader investor trend.
