Cisco completed its acquisition of Lightspin in 2023, but Cisco did not disclose the deal price in its announcement or earnings release. Contemporary reporting put the value at $200–250 million, so the $200 million figure in the original headline is best understood as reported shorthand, not a confirmed Cisco figure.

What happened in the Cisco–Lightspin deal?

On March 29, 2023, Cisco announced its intent to acquire Lightspin Technologies Ltd., a privately held cloud-security software company headquartered in Tel Aviv. Cisco said the deal would add cloud-native security capabilities to its portfolio. The announcement was updated on May 24, 2023, to confirm that the acquisition had been completed. Cisco’s fiscal 2023 fourth-quarter earnings release also listed Lightspin among the acquisitions closed during that quarter, corroborating the completion. Cisco FY2023 earnings release

How much did Cisco pay for Lightspin?

CTech reported a purchase-price range of $200 million to $250 million. Cisco’s announcement and FY2023 earnings release confirm the transaction but do not state its value; Cisco therefore did not publicly confirm a $200 million price in those materials. CTech’s report on the deal value

What did Lightspin’s cloud-security software do?

Cisco described Lightspin as a cloud security posture management (CSPM) provider for cloud-native resources. CSPM software helps organizations identify and manage security risks in cloud environments. Cisco said Lightspin used graph-based technology to connect resources and risks, add context, prioritize issues, and recommend remediation.

Those are Cisco’s descriptions of the product’s approach, not independently verified performance results. In its announcement, Cisco characterized the approach this way: “Lightspin takes a unique approach to contextualized cloud-security coverage, using graph-based technology to deliver key context, prioritization, and remediation recommendations.” Cisco’s acquisition listing

Is Lightspin still available as a standalone product?

The cited Cisco records establish that the acquisition closed, but they do not say whether Lightspin remains available as a standalone product, what it is currently called or how it is packaged or supported. The 2023 acquisition announcement alone is not evidence of present-day independent availability.

Why did Cisco highlight cloud security?

Cisco’s March 2023 announcement placed the acquisition within its broader expansion in cloud-native security and observability. It also cited its 2023 Cybersecurity Readiness Index, saying 15% of organizations globally had a cybersecurity posture it described as “Mature” enough to defend against risks of a hybrid world. That figure is Cisco’s characterization; the announcement does not provide the index methodology, so it should not be read as an independently validated measure of Lightspin’s market or product performance.
