How to use the paper for revision
- Set exam conditions. Allow two hours, work through all five questions and avoid checking notes while answering.
- Read each question carefully and plan before writing. The paper’s instructions advise candidates to read and plan. Identify the command words and make sure the response addresses each part of a multi-part question.
- Review answers against course materials. Use the CXC syllabus to identify the concept behind each part and revisit material where your explanation, example or application is weak.
- Practise presentation. Keep answers clearly labelled, and label any response continued on extra pages, as the paper instructs.
- Use more than one kind of resource. CXC’s Principles of Business page lists a syllabus, specimen paper, mark scheme, subject reports, past papers and a self-study and distance-learning resource. A past paper gives question practice; it is not itself a complete study guide or proof of the full syllabus coverage.
CXC describes Principles of Business as focusing on the “theoretical and practical aspects of business activities.” Its syllabus is organized into ten sections across three profile dimensions: organisational principles; production, marketing and finance; and the business environment. That broader structure is why a single past paper should be used alongside the current syllabus rather than as a prediction of what will appear in a future examination.

Paper, mark scheme and study guide: the distinction
- Past paper: the examination questions for a particular sitting, useful for timed practice.
- Mark scheme: guidance on marking responses. CXC lists mark schemes among its subject resources, but the January 2023 mark scheme’s specific availability and contents are not established here.
- Study guide: explanatory material for learning and review. CXC lists a Principles of Business self-study and distance-learning resource; consult the official subject page for current resource details.
CXC’s subject-report index lists a Principles of Business report for the January 2023 sitting. The report’s findings are not summarized here, so no performance statistics or recommendations should be inferred from its listing alone.
