The appointment took effect August 1, 2024, after the company announced the change on July 23; Jim Jackson planned to retire at the end of HPE’s fiscal 2024. HPE’s leadership biography still lists Temple in the combined role when checked.
Who replaced Jim Jackson as HPE CMO?
Jennifer Temple took over HPE’s Global Marketing organization from Jim Jackson and became the company’s EVP and Chief Marketing & Communications Officer. She had joined HPE in 2018 as chief communications officer, was already on the executive committee, and continued reporting to CEO Antonio Neri. HPE described Temple as bringing more than 30 years of reputation and brand-building expertise; that figure is the company’s characterization in its announcement, not an independently audited measure.
Before the change, Temple led communications while Jackson was CMO. The appointment brought those leadership responsibilities together under the CMCO title. HPE did not publish an org chart or detailed staffing changes alongside the announcement.
When did the leadership change take effect?
| Time | What HPE said |
|---|---|
| July 23, 2024 | HPE announced Temple’s expanded role and Jackson’s planned retirement. |
| August 1, 2024 | Temple’s CMCO appointment became effective. |
| End of fiscal 2024 | Jackson planned to retire. HPE did not specify a calendar date in the announcement. |
HPE’s current executive biography continues to identify Temple as EVP and CMCO, reporting to Neri and responsible for global brand, marketing, and communications. That is what the page lists when checked; executive roles can change.

Why did HPE combine marketing and communications?
HPE presented the teams as integrated and described the combined function’s priorities: clarifying the company’s differentiated value propositions, creating immersive experiences around its innovation and purpose, and advancing its position in hybrid cloud, Enterprise AI, and networking. The announcement did not cite cost savings, marketing-spend changes, or a broader reduction in executive roles as reasons for the move.
Those priorities describe HPE’s stated intent, not evidence that the appointment later produced a specific commercial or financial result.

What did HPE say about Jim Jackson’s tenure?
HPE said Jackson had spent more than two decades with the company and more than six years as CMO. Jackson described his own tenure as 26 years, dating from when he first joined then-Hewlett-Packard in July 1998. These are differently framed figures from HPE and Jackson, rather than identical measures.
CEO Antonio Neri credited Jackson with the GreenLake brand launch, simplifying product brands, customer and partner campaigns, and experiential events. Those are Neri’s assessments in HPE’s announcement. Jackson said his next chapter would include board service, more time with family, travel, and volunteering.
