The company said the station went from contract to launch in seven weeks. Inside the 18,000-square-foot headquarters, the company was building and testing the equipment and software behind that rapid rollout.
What happened at the Ridgefield Costco?
On October 24, 2024, GeekWire reported that Seattle-based Electric Era had installed fast chargers at Costco’s Ridgefield, Washington, warehouse. The company’s announcement said seven weeks elapsed between signing the contract and launching the station; GeekWire described the chargers as installed within seven weeks of being ordered. These are related but not identical descriptions of the timeline, and both are company-reported deployment claims—not a general measure of how quickly any Costco or charging project can be completed. GeekWire’s October 24, 2024 report and Electric Era’s announcement via PR Newswire describe the launch.
GeekWire described the Ridgefield equipment as two-port charging units rated at 200 kW, paired with a large battery. The article did not provide the battery’s capacity, session-level charging results, or independently measured uptime for this site.
Inside Electric Era’s 18,000-square-foot Seattle facility
Electric Era moved during summer 2024 to a larger facility south of downtown Seattle. GeekWire described an 18,000-square-foot workspace designed to bring engineering, assembly, customization, and testing under one roof. The report did not give a street address.

- WORKS WITH EVERY NON-TESLA EV: Standard J1772 connector plugs straight into Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, Rivian, Lucid and every other EV or plug-in hybrid sold with a J1772 port - no adapter needed. Tesla drivers can charge too, using the J1772 adapter that comes with the car.
- PLUG IN, NO HARDWIRING: Level 2 charger delivers up to 40A to fully charge most EVs overnight. Plugs into a 240V, 4-prong NEMA 14-50 outlet (the RV/range type - NOT a dryer outlet) on a dedicated 50A circuit. The extra-long 25 ft cable easily reaches across a garage or driveway. Before ordering, check your car's port type and that you have the right outlet.
- CONTROL & SAVE FROM YOUR PHONE: A stronger built-in antenna keeps the charger online even in a garage or basement. Use the free app to start/stop charging, set speed (6-40A), get reminders, and track energy use and cost. Schedule off-peak overnight charging to cut your electric bill. Requires 2.4 GHz WiFi.
- SAFETY-CERTIFIED & WEATHERPROOF: Independently tested and certified (UL, ETL, FCC, Energy Star). A fully sealed IP66 / NEMA 4 housing stands up to rain, snow, heat and dust indoors or out, and internal steel shielding protects the electronics for years of reliable use.
- GLOW-IN-THE-DARK HOLSTER: The included high-visibility holster glows in the dark so you can find and dock the plug easily at night. Holds the connector securely when not in use.
Work areas for equipment and software
The facility included a central work area, desks, electrical benches, and space to customize chargers. Teams also worked on software and payment interfaces there. That combination matters to a deployment: a charging station is not just a power unit, but also a customer-facing payment and software system that must function at the site.
A fireproof garage for battery testing
A fireproof garage was used to test batteries under different conditions before installation. The report establishes that this testing space existed; it does not publish test protocols or results for the Ridgefield station.
Why the facility mattered in the Costco deal
Costco’s EV team toured Electric Era’s facility before the deal. CEO and co-founder Quincy Lee told GeekWire that seeing organized production, supply-chain, and inventory-logistics areas helped establish the startup’s credibility. That is Lee’s account of the sales process, not evidence that the facility alone caused Costco to select the company.

The visit nevertheless illustrates the operational point behind the headquarters tour: a physical production and test space can show a prospective customer how a supplier expects to build, prepare, and support equipment. Electric Era’s new facility was part of the company’s case that it could deliver a commercial installation, not simply a backdrop for the announcement.

A battery at a charging site can store electricity when demand is lower and supply extra power when vehicles are charging. That can help a site deliver high peak charging power without drawing the same peak amount from the grid at that moment. It does not eliminate the need for grid power, nor does the presence of a battery guarantee a particular charging speed or utility-upgrade schedule.
Lee described grid limits as central to the company’s business, telling GeekWire: “The fundamental value that the company has is solving the grid constraint.” The quote reflects the company’s stated rationale for its technology; it is not a measured result from Ridgefield.

- [Up to 9x Faster Charging Speed]: Provides up to 46 miles/hour charging speed via hardwired connection (48 amp - up to 9x faster than a standard wall outlet) or up to 38 miles/hour via the NEMA 14-50 plug (40 amp). Professional installation recommended for optimal safety and performance. [Install The Power Outlet Cord]: No smaller than 8AWG if charge 40-48A, we suggest 6AWG cord.(1.The input side is belongs to the electrician electric automobile regulation scope, need to use three 6AWG cable wires for 48A; 2.The charging cable belongs to the automotive connector certification standard, so the 8AWG cable can meet the 48A.)

A later, separate example offers measured detail about the approach, but not about Costco. In an April 28, 2026 release, Puget Sound Energy (PSE) reported on a battery-backed fleet-charging demonstration at its Kent facility. PSE said its four ports could provide up to 200 kW per port and listed battery capacity as 125/220 kWh. Its first-month results were:
- 70 kW reduction in peak demand.
- 209 kW peak power delivered to vehicles while drawing 139 kW from the grid.
- 96.5% first-session success and 99.95% uptime.
Those figures are PSE’s reported measurements for the Kent demonstration, not Costco’s Ridgefield station. The sites, uses, reporting periods, and sources differ. PSE’s April 2026 account includes the project’s stated specifications and first-month figures.

What is—and is not—known about performance and cost
In the 2024 GeekWire article, Lee said Electric Era chargers were operating 98% of the time. He also said the chargers were slightly more expensive than Tesla’s and at least 25% cheaper than other competitors. These are company and CEO claims reported at the time, not an independent comparison or a published performance test of the Ridgefield station. The article does not specify the cost-comparison methodology, the comparison products, or a measurement period for the uptime figure.

In its October 24, 2024 announcement, Lee said: “With our unique, patented software we address the reliability challenges that are faced by other traditional EV chargers.” This is Electric Era’s characterization of its software and competitors, rather than an independently established finding.
Costco’s wider charging plans and the limits of the record
GeekWire’s 2024 story cited Costco’s then-reported plan to install fast chargers at 20 locations, without a timeframe. Costco’s 2025 sustainability report says the company is expanding EV charging, including fast charging at multiple locations where feasible. Neither source establishes how many Electric Era-Costco sites are operating now, whether the Ridgefield station remains in service, or whether the 20-location plan was completed. Costco’s 2025 sustainability report provides the later corporate context.
Other company figures in the 2024 GeekWire article are historical, not current: Electric Era had launched in 2019, employed 33 people, and raised $20.5 million from investors at the time. The company also hoped to deploy another 50 stations by the end of 2025; that was a stated goal, not evidence the deployments occurred. The article’s original publication date is October 24, 2024. GeekWire’s article page gives that date.
